Unfavorable sequelae from mandibular fractures includes malocclusion and temporomandibular joint dysfunction. The management of these complications is presented in this article and is largely based on the authors’ experience. Cases that provide details on treatment methods are shown. Finally, an algorithm for treatment is suggested.

The basic concept of closed functional treatment of condylar fractures is predicated on the recognition that function is expedient to bone and soft tissue healing, rehabilitation, and the prevention of disability of the temporomandibular joint and the mandible. The aim of treatment is to restore function which consists of good pain free condylar movement, occlusion and mandibular symmetry.
