A segment-based approach to the analysis of project evaluation problems by hesitant fuzzy sets

José Carlos R. Alcantud; Rocío de Andrés Calle

AbstractWe provide a methodology to perform an extensive and systematized analysis of problems where experts voice their opinions on the attributes of projects through a hesitant fuzzy decision matrix. This provides the decision-maker with ample information on which he or she can rely in order to make the final decision, in the form of segments instead of numbers. These segments derive from weighted average of new parametric expressions for two tenable indices of satisfaction, the distance to an ideal or the similarity to an anti-ideal, and permit to give a profuse unified picture of the relative performance of the projects. When the parameter grows, these indices tend to replicate the evaluation by respective simplistic expressions that only depend on the least, resp., the largest, evaluation and the number of evaluations in each cell.

The problem of collective identity in a fuzzy environment

José Carlos R. Alcantud; Rocío de Andrés Calle

We define the problem of group identification in a fuzzy environment. We concentrate on the case where the society is required to self-determine the belongingness of each member to a specific group, characterized by a single attribute. In general terms, this case consists of a collective identity issue that can be regarded as an aggregation problem of individual assessments within a group. Here we introduce the possibility that both the original assessments and the resulting output attach partial memberships to the collectivity, for each potential member. We propose relevant classes of rules, and some are axiomatically characterized. Our new approach provides a way to circumvent classical impossibility results like Kasher and Rubinsteins.

Managing Interacting Criteria: Application to Environmental Evaluation Practices

Teresa González-Arteaga; Rocío de Andrés Calle; Luis Martínez

The need for organizations to evaluate their environmental practices has been recently increasing. This fact has led to the development of many approaches to appraise such practices. In this paper, a novel decision model to evaluate company’s environmental practices is proposed to improve traditional evaluation process in different facets. Firstly, different reviewers’ collectives related to the company’s activity are taken into account in the process to increase company internal efficiency and external legitimacy. Secondly, following the standard ISO 14031, two general categories of environmental performance indicators, management and operational, are considered. Thirdly, since the assumption of independence among environmental indicators is rarely verified in environmental context, an aggregation operator to bear in mind the relationship among such indicators in the evaluation results is proposed. Finally, this new model integrates quantitative and qualitative information with different scales using a multi-granular linguistic model that allows to adapt diverse evaluation scales according to appraisers’ knowledge.

A MCDM approach for evaluating company's environmental practices

Rocío de Andrés Calle; Teresa González-Arteaga; Luis Martínez López

The need of organizations to evaluate their environmental practices is increasing, but there are many possibilities to do it. In this paper a decision model is proposed to evaluate company’s environmental practice taking into account different collectives of reviewers related to the company’s activity. Moreover, this model integrates quantitative and qualitative information with different scales using a multigranular linguistic model that allows to adapt diverse evaluation scales according to the appraisers’ knowledge. The final aim is to compute partial and global indicators that can be used by the management team to make their decisions regarding the environmental issues.

A Proposal to Measure Human Group Behaviour Stability

Teresa González-Artega; José Manuel Cascón; Rocío de Andrés Calle

A non-traditional approach on the measurement of agents behaviour is presented. This contribution focus on measuring stability of agents’ preferences on an intertemporal context under the assumption of considering uncertainty opinions. To this aim, the concept of behaviour stability measure is defined as well as a particular one, the sequential behaviour stability measure. Finally and in order to highlight the good behaviour of novel measure, some properties are also provided.

A Linguistic Approach for Self-Perceived Health State: A Real Study for Diabetes Disease

Rocío de Andrés Calle; Teresa González-Arteaga; José Carlos R. Alcantud; Marta Peral

The concept of life quality is a subjective feeling that only patient is able to define. The absence of disease is one of the determinants of well-being and life quality. Generally, self-perceived health status is measured by specific or generic questionnaires. The health information collected in the questionnaires is usually expressed by numerical values although the indicators evaluated are qualitative and subjective. This contribution proposes a linguistic approach where health information provided by patients is modelled by means of linguistic information in order to manage the uncertainty and subjectivity of such assessments. The contribution introduces a new model for measuring self-perceived health that can manage linguistic information and computes a final linguistic evaluation for each patient, applying an effective aggregation operator. A real case study is also presented to show the usefulness and effectiveness of the proposed model in the case of diabetes disease.
