Abstract Longivena gen. n. and five new species are described and illustrated from caatinga and cerrado habitats from Brazil: Longivena digitata sp. n., type–species (Maranhão, Bahia, Minas Gerais and Mato Grosso do Sul states), Longivena bilobata sp. n. (Maranhão state), Longivena flava sp. n. (Mato Grosso do Sul state), Longivena limeiraoliverai sp. n. (Maranhão state), Longivena spatulata sp. n. (Maranhão state). An illustrated key is also provided.

The holosericeus complex of Ommatius Wiedemann in Brazil: a new species and first record of the ampliatus group for the country and new records for the holosericeus group (Diptera, Asilidae). In this paper a new species of Ommatius Wiedemann, 1821 belonging to the ampliatus group is described from the Amazonas state. Furthermore, new records, taxonomic variations, illustrations and description of male and female terminalia are provided for the species of the holosericeus group.

Aristofolia Ayala-Landa, a valid genus of Asilinae (Diptera, Asilidae). The robber fly genus Aristofolia Ayala-Landa, 1978 is a monotypic taxon of Asilinae. The status of Aristofolia is revalidated, and addenda to the original description of the genus is provided. The habitus, wings, male and female terminalia are described and illustrated.

The second species of the Neotropical genus Wygodasilus Artigas & Papavero, 1995, Wygodasilus albisetus sp. nov., is described from Bahia state, Brazil. The habitus, wing, male and female terminalia are described and illustrated.

The male of Smeryngolaphria gurupi Artigas, Papavero & Pimentel, 1988 and the female of Smeryngolaphria taperignae Artigas, Papavero & Pimentel, 1988 are described for the first time. The habitus, thorax, abdomen, male and female terminalia with external and internal structures are illustrated and described. The external and internal structures of the male and female of Smeryngolaphria gorayebi Artigas, Papavero & Pimentel, 1988, Smeryngolaphria maculipennis (Macquart, 1846) and Smeryngolaphria numitor (Osten Sacken, 1887) are described and illustrated, Smeryngolaphria numitor for the first time. A map with the new records is provided.

Ctenodontina Enderlein is reported for the first time in Argentina. A new species, C. sagta sp. nov. (Argentina, Salta) is described. New combination is Ctenodontina baleta (Walker), comb. nov. with two synonimies: Pachychoeta caracasae Martin syn. nov. and Pachychoeta inca Martin syn. nov. The male and female terminalia of C. baleta (Walker). comb. nov. is illustrated and described for the first time and a key to species is presented.

The robber fly genus Diplosynapsis Enderlein, 1914 is reviewed and four new species are described-D. chela sp. nov. (Amazonas state, Brazil), D. fisheri sp. nov. (Guapiles, Heredia, Limon, Puntarenas province, Costa Rica), D. spina sp. nov. (Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil) and D. uncinata sp. nov. (Amazonas state, Brazil). A lectotype is designated for D. cellata (Schiner, 1868) pres. desig. and comments are made on D. remus Tomasovic, 2002. An identification key and illustrations are presented for all species.

Abstract The third species of the Neotropical genus Leinendera Carrera, 1945, Leinendera achaeta sp. n., is described from Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil. The habitus, wing and male terminalia are described and illustrated, and a key to the three Brazilian species is provided.
