English“Nothing is more practical than a good theory” is a famous sentence attributed to Kurt Lewin. However, it is necessary for a theory to apply that too many obstacles are not interposed between it and practice, as was the case when psychology practitioners were considered from a Marxist perspective as participating in the alienation of workers. That will be my first point. The second is another example where external circumstances have had an influence, which this time was positive, on this link between theory and practice: the creation of DESS “childhood adolescence”. My third and main point will be a brief account of the repeated failure of a practice: the measurement of intelligence in infants, for lack of sufficient reflection on The theories which have been successively invoked. Il est pourtant necessaire pour qu’une theorie s’applique que trop d’obstacles ne s’interposent pas entre elle et la pratique, comme ce fut le cas quand les praticiens de la psychologie ont ete consideres dans une optique marxiste comme participant a l’alienation des travailleurs. Ce sera mon premier point. Le second est un autre exemple ou des circonstances exterieures ont eu une influence, positive celle-la, sur ce lien entre theorie et pratique : la creation des DESS « enfance adolescence ». Mon troisieme et principal point sera un rapide expose de l’echec repete d’une pratique : la mesure de l’intelligence des bebes, faute d’une reflexion suffisante sur les theories auxquelles il a ete successivement fait appel. Enfin je terminerai cette exploration des relations tortueuses entre theorie et pratique par un tour du cote de la vulgarisation et de la valorisation necessaires de nos theories.
