The aim of this research was to determine the influence of disrupting flights on the screening in rotating drum. The study was carried out for drum with diameters of 700 mm and for three cases: empty drum, drum with one and four flights. The bed consist field pea grain with range of fill-in-degree from 15% to 35%. In order to determine the particle movement fast-speed camera with PIV application was used.

Rotating drums are used to grinding, drying, mixing, screening, granulating and other processes in environmental engineering. Depending on the nature of the process they can be equipped with additional devices to support the processes. In this work, the effect of drum surface roughness on the behaviour of the feed during drumming. For this purpose, three types of bottom coverings with grain size of 40, 80 and 120 were used. In the experiment the methodology of sequential image analysis using PIV software was applied. The results of theoretical calculations and experimental works have shown significant discrepancies (of approx. 46%) of speed characteristics for the minimum speed of the drum and smaller (amounting to approx. 5%) for the critical speed. In case of change in the particle size of the drum coverings, there were no significant differences in the behaviour of the feed.

This article is about characteristic velocity for a rotary drums. Rotary drums are used in many industrial processes for particulate materials. The research entered five various of the drum diameter - ranged from 300 to 700 mm. This paper includes analysis of results that have been carried out by research and calculated by the equations for the characteristics velocity. Applied method of research - DPIV (Digital Particle Image Velocimetry) - allows to determine the velocity field of filler particle and afford to designate the trajectory of its motion.
