Preaching and postmodernism

Ronald J. Allen

Although rejecting the core values of the modern worldview, postmodernism may prove to be more blessing than bane for worshiping communities. From deconstruction to apologetics, the postmodern context calls for new ways of preaching the gospel.

Philippians 2:1–11

Ronald J. Allen

MANY SCHOLARS CONCLUDE THAT THE present epistle to the Philippians is a compilation of two (or more) letters. I follow those who think that dis. 3 and 4 are from the first letter Paul wrote to the congregation to thank them for financial support, and also to warn them against false teaching (3:2-11) and fractiousness in the community (4:2-3). Chapters 1 and 2 are from a second letter in which Paul reinforces the importance of the congregation living as a community of mutual support.
