Abstract The discovery and development of medicines is entirely dependent upon a deep understanding of the clinical manifestation of disease. Medical-scientific positions in pharmaceutical companies reflect the expertise required to answer the core questions asked by each phase of drug discovery and development: translational science, clinical pharmacology, clinical investigation, drug safety, and drug regulation. Careers can be built within any of these disciplines or by experience in many, leading to management, leadership, and key decision-making responsibilities.
