Il presente lavoro, inserendosi tra i piu recenti studi sul marketing nel family business, si pone un duplice obiettivo: da un lato, indagare la diversa intensita con cui le imprese familiari valorizzano la propria natura nella comunicazione online; dall’altro, comprendere quali caratteristiche della personalita family firm specific condizionano la decisione di enfatizzare lo status di impresa familiare nella definizione del corporate brand e della web communication. La ricerca empirica e condotta su 72 wine family businesses e applica la tecnica della content analysis, per indagare i contenuti testuali dei corporate web sites, e un modello di regressione lineare, per testare quali caratteristiche d’impresa possono influenzare una comunicazione online high family-based.

How Does Corporate Governance Affect Bank Performance? The Mediating Role of Risk Governance

This paper aims to investigate how bank governance (board size, board composition, ownership structure) affects performance (ROA), by considering the mediating role of risk governance (presence of a risk committee, the number of meetings of the risk committee in one year, the risk committee size, the percentage of independent directors in the risk committee, and the presence of a chief risk officer). A sample of 31 Italian listed banks is examined over a ten-year period (2008-2017), in order to delineate the changes in corporate governance structure and to catch the effects of the current national and European regulations followed to the financial crisis. Hypotheses are tested by applying a mediation analysis according to the causal steps procedure. The main findings suggest that risk governance fully mediates the corporate governance-bank performance relationship. Specifically, we find that the board size is positively related to the presence of a risk committee and to the number of meetings. The percentage of independent directors on board is positively related to the percentage of independent directors in the risky committee and, in turn, has a positive effect on performance. Finally, the presence of institutional owners is positively related to the presence of a chief risk officer and, thus, to bank performance. Summing up, banks with wider and more heterogeneous boards of directors have better risk management-related corporate governance mechanisms and reach higher performance levels.

Women on Board of Directors and Firm Perfomance: The Moderating Role of Female Ownership. Empirical Evidence from the Italian Wine Industry

Many studies have investigated the impact of female directors on firm performance, but the results are still largely inconclusive. This paper aims to analyse the direct relationship between these variables and to explore the moderating role of female owners on the relationship between females on board of directors and firm performance. The main hypotheses are tested, through a panel regression model with cross section random effects, on a sample of 380 firms over the period 2008-2012. Our main findings show that the presence of women on company board does not affect firm performance. However, this relationship becomes significant when we consider the moderating role of the female presence in ownership. Implications for theory and practice are also discussed.
