Administrative Accountability in a Hispanic High School: A Mentorship Model

This article is an effort to bring about reform within the high schools administrative culture. The realignment of the administrative and counseling units allowed for personalizing services to students and parents. It is anticipated that through the new model, supervisory duties, individualizing curriculum, advising and disciplining students, collecting data, and developing community involvement will be better addressed and served.

Bilingualism and Biculturalism for the Special Education Classroom.

are truly handicapped. Few, if any, teacher education programs train special educat~on persor~nel to eal with cultural, linguistic, and value ifferences. There is a growing need for special educators (many of whom are monolingual ~~g~~sh=s~ea~~rs~ to integrate ilingualism and/or biculturalism in their classrooms. This article outlines a plan of action that will assist special educators in their interactions with children (and parents) whose primary language is Spanish. A variety of bilingual-biculturai cornpetencies are suggested. These competencies may be easily mastered by monolingual Enalsnspeaking special edcators.

A Valid Self-Appraisal Instrument for Community College Administrators.

This study resulted from a concern that a valid and reliable self‐assessment instrument was needed for community college administrators. The instrument constructed included thirty performance dimensions. Administrators from three community colleges assisted in the establishment of the validity and reliability of the instrument. The process for developing a self‐assessment instrument for performance appraisal was validated. Implications for practice include a method for administrator self‐improvement of performance and the development of administrator training programs.
