ENGLISH WORDS IN EUROPEAN MOUTHS AND MINDS

1. The resul ts of i n v e s t i g a t i o n s car r ied out in my project The English Element in European Languages^ w i l l be presented in two works: The f i r s t is a monograph, under the same t i t l e , in w h i c h l try to show w h i c h l i n g u i s t i c features of borrowing are common to a l l and w h i c h to only some languages . One of my a i m s in the monograph is to discover the un ive r sa ls and r e g u l a r i t i e s in l i n g u i s t i c bor rowing and to de te rmine whether the features that on ly some languages have in common are connected w i t h the genet ic relatedness of the languages or not. T h i s shou ld Support or d isprove the existence of some general p r i n c i p l e s for languages in contact and for l i n g u i s t i c bor rowing . The second work is a Dictionary of Anglicisms in European Languages in w h i c h a l l E n g l i s h words (col lec ted in the corpus) that have been t rans fe r red in to no mat ter how many (one or a l l ) of the European languages chosen for the corpus, are recorded and discussed on three l eve l s p h o n o l o g i c a l , morpho log ica l and semant i c.
