Veterinary Hospital of Education Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Bogor Agricultural University, received a Golden Retriever with clinical symptoms of anorexia, abdominal pain, vomiting and constipation in April 2016. Blood profile examination showed leukocytosis, erythropenia and low hemoglobin level. Radiographic examination without contrast showed a foreign body which is characterized by a large mass radiopaque in intestinal area. Forty-five minutes after the administration of radiographic contrast, contrast material was still in gastrium and only reached partial intestinal. Endoscopy examination showed there was irritation symptoms of the esophagus to gastrium. Black colored liquid was seen while the endoscope inserted into the gastric. Enterotomy was carried out to remove foreign objects. The foreign body is consisted of bones fragments and the plastic that was eaten by the patient. One week after surgery, the animals showed clinical symptoms and had a good appetite. These case can be prevented by not giving foods that contain animal bones and keeping animals in a dirty environment.

This study aimed to determine the effect of the red watermelon extract can affect the number of leukocytes in mice exposed to cigarette smoke. This study was designed with a completely randomized design using a unidirectional pattern 20 male mice (Mus muscullus) were divided into 4 groups. K1 negative controls were given 0.5 ml of distilled water, K2 positive control by exposure to cigarette smoke and 0.5 ml of distilled water, K3 by exposure to cigarette smoke and red watermelon extract were given a dose of 22 mg / mouse and K4 by exposure to cigarette smoke and were given extracts of red watermelon a dose of 44 mg / mouse. Exposure to cigarette smoke and red watermelon extract conducted for 30 days, making blood on day 31. Blood sampling performed at Plexus Retroorbitalis. Furthermore, counting the number of leukocytes. Data were analyzed using ANOVA completely randomized design with SPSS for Windows 16.0. The results of this study showed that the extract of watermelon for 30 days showed their real influence (P <0.05) to the number of leukocytes in mice. It is concluded that free radicals contained in cigarette can cause a leukocytosis, an inflammatory, oxidative stress and red watermelon extract can minimize cell damage.

The aims of this study to find out differences in cholesterol levels hunter dog and dog house in the district of Lima Puluh Kota. This study using 99 hunter dogs and 98 dogs home in a healthy condition clinically. Dog blood samples were taken on the morning at the cephalika venous. Blood samples were obtained dripped on cholesterol strip that has been put into Gluco-dr and after 10 seconds cholesterol levels can read on screen. Data were analyzed statistically using chi-square test T which were helped by SPSS 16. The results showed that the average cholesterol levels in the dogs hunt were 87.67 ± 43.49 mg / dl and 297 in the dogs house, 72 ± 94 mg / dl. The statisticresult was showed significant difference (p <0.05) between blood cholesterol levels with a hunter dogs anddogshouse blood cholesterol levels. This research can be concluded that average of cholesterol levels of hunter dogs and dogs house were still within the normal range, but showed the sicnificant differences due to the different

The aim of this research was to investigate the effect of red watermelon (Citrullus vulgaris) extract to the value of erythrocytes, hemoglobin, and hematocrit of mice (Mus muscullus) exposed to cigarette smoke. This study followed direct complete randomized design by using 12 males’ mice which divided into 4 groups. The treatment group is divided by the negative control group which given 0,5 ml of aquadest, the positive control group which exposed to cigarette smoke and 0,5 ml of aquadest. The treatment group I was exposed to cigarette smoke and given red watermelon extract dose 22 mg/Bw mice. The treatment group II was exposed to cigarette smoke and given red with watermelon extract dose 44 mg/Bw mice. The exposure to cigarette smoke and the given of red watermelon extract were conducted for 30 days. The blood taking was performed on day 31 in the Plexus retroorbital. Furthermore, the number of erythrocytes, hemoglobin and hematocrit were calculated. The data were analyzed using ANOVA completely randomized design with SPSS for Windows 16.0. The results of this study showed that the extract of red watermelon for 30 days showed a highly significant effect (P <0.01) to the number of erythrocytes, hemoglobin, and hematocrit of mice. It is concluded that free radicals contained in the cigarette can cause a hemoglobin desaturation, increased blood viscosity, oxidative stress and red watermelon extract can minimize the

2. DETEKSI LEUKOSIT URINE ORANGUTAN SUMATERA (Pongo abelii) MENGGUNAKAN STRIP TEST SEMIKUANTITATIF DI PUSAT REINTRODUKSI JANTHO (Detection of Leucocyte on Sumatran Orangutan (Pongo abelii) Urine Using Semiquantitative Strip Test in Jantho’s Reintroduction Center)

Meuthya; Rusli Rusli; Erdiansyah Rahmi

The aim of this study was to find out the information about sumatran orangutan urine leucocyte as a medical record of them at Cagar Alam Pinus Jantho Reintroduction Center, Aceh Besar. Urine samples were collected from ten sumatran orangutans which come from forest, around cages, and in the cage. The urine was collected in the morning when orangutan woke up and left the nest or before first feeding for orangutans which were in the cages. The replication test was done six times within one month. Urine examination was carried out directly after urine collection by soaking the strip test in 5 ml urine for 120 second. The data was analyzed by qualitative descriptive method and the result was semiquantitative based on the discoloration scale: negative, trace (±15 leucocyte/μL), +1 (70 leucocyte/μL), +2 (125 leucocyte/μL), and +3 (500 leucocyte/μL). The result showed that the average of leucocyte from 4 orangutans which were in the cages (Ego, Wenda, Miky, and Ontong) was ±15 leucocyte/μL, while Ayu Ting Ting for the first test had the highest level of leucocyte (500 leucocyte/μL) then decreased on the next test. Coty, Ruben, Yusniar (arround the cages) had variative leucocyte values every week. Two orangutans in the forest (Kamelia and Brokoli) had negative value for urine leucoyte. Key words: leucocyte, sumatran orangutan, strip test, urine
