ALTHOUGH some voices are denying the need for curriculum guides and suggesting other approaches to the organization of learning experiences, schools, school districts, and state departments of education continue to spend time, money, and some of their best thinking on the creation of curriculum guides. Those who prepare the guides do not, however, ignore the voices. No longer does a single teacher, employed for a few weeks during the summer, sit alone at a table allotting chapters of the textbook to six-week periods and then go home, the task completed. Now, many people are involved, for the creation of a guide is not a single act, but a process-an on-going process. As it is produced in written form, it is intended not to limit class activities but to provide a framework within which the teach-
