Fabrication of Y–Ba–Cu–O Superconducting Wire by the Powder-Sol Method

Y-Ba-Cu-O superconducting wires have been prepared by using the powder-sol method. Wires with a typical diameter of 280 µm were made by extruding a suspension of YBCO powder with a mixture of organic metal compounds, followed by sintering at a temperature between 910°C and 940°C in flowing oxygen. The maximum current density of 2020 A/cm2 in liquid nitrogen was obtained on the wires fired at 930°C.
