Structure-activity relationships of benzoylphenyl ureas

Insecticides which can selectively disturb the development of immature insects have become of ever increasing interest. Benzoylphenyl ureas are known to interfere with the formation and/or deposition of cuticle chitin during larval molts, and to exhibit selective toxicity against some orders of insects in the larval stages. Owing to these promising characteristics, more benzoylphenyl urea derivatives are becoming commercialized, or are under development since the introduction of diflubenzuron (Figure 1)
