were unambiguously identified, and the velocity distributions of the produced nuclides were determined with high precision. The results show that the nuclides are produced in a very asymmetric binary decay of heavy nuclei originating from the spallation of uranium. All the features of the produced nuclides merge with the characteristics of the fission products as their mass increases.

243Am neutron-induced fission cross section in the fast neutron energy range

Isotopically resolved cross sections and velocity distributions have been measured in charge-pickup reactions of 1A GeV {sup 208}Pb with proton, deuterium, and titanium targets. The total and partial charge-pickup cross sections in the reactions {sup 208}Pb+{sup 1}H and {sup 208}Pb+{sup 2}H are measured to be the same within the limits of the error bars. A weak increase in the total charge-pickup cross section is seen in the reaction of {sup 208}Pb with the titanium target. The measured velocity distributions show different contributions--quasielastic scattering and {delta}-resonance excitation--to the charge-pickup production. Data on total and partial charge-pickup cross sections from these three reactions are compared with other existing data and also with model calculations based on the coupling of different intranuclear cascade codes and an evaporation code.

β-delayed one- and two-proton and α spectroscopic studies of the neutron-deficient nuclei 22,23,24Si and 22Al produced in projectile fragmentation of a 36Ar primary beam at 95 MeV/u have been performed at GANIL. Isotopes of interest were analyzed using the LISE3 spectrometer and were implanted in a telescope made of silicon detectors and a micro-strip gaseous counter where decay particles were detected.

Systematic investigation of background sources in neutron flux measurements with a proton-recoil silicon detector

P. Marini; L. Mathieu; L. Acosta; M. Aiche; S. Czajkowski; B. Jurado; I. Tsekhanovich

The heavy odd-odd N=Z nuclei {sup 78}Y,{sup 82}Nb,{sup 86}Tc have been produced at GANIL by fragmentation of a 60 MeV/u {sup 92}Mo beam on a natural nickel target. Their lifetime have been measured for the first time, using the identification-implantation and subsequent time correlated {beta} counting technique at the LISE spectrometer. The obtained half-lives for {sup 78}Y,{sup 82}Nb,{sup 86}Tc are consistent with the microscopic predictions. These nuclei are good candidates to extend the mass range for the V{sub ud} matrix element evaluation and our experimental results highlight the interest of further investigation of their excited states and {beta} decay schemes as a function of isospin. {copyright} {ital 1998 American Institute of Physics.}
