Pulsed linear lamps may be very useful experimental devices to obtain transition probability data. They can provide valuable information of the spectral emission of spectral lines in very different conditions of electron density and temperature. However, they require a very careful previous analysis, which include many experimental aspects e.g., spatial and temporal emission homogeneity, good characterization of equilibrium status or a very precise knowledge of the equipment employed to make measurements: spectrometer transmittance, self-absorption control or lamp windows dirtying. Most of these aspects will be considered along this work, their particular relevance as well as the way they have been controlled in the Plasma Physics Laboratory at the University of Valladolid (Spain).

Stark widths and shifts of some Xe II lines belonging to the supermultiplets with upper levels ({sup 3}P{sub 1})6p were measured using a pulsed discharge lamp. Plasma parameters, i.e. electron density and temperature, in this experiment were in the range from 0.2 to 1.4x10{sup 23} m{sup -3} and from 18000 to 23000 K, respectively. Lines obtained by transitions from levels ({sup 3}P{sub 1})6p show some strong intra-supermultiplet irregularities in their Stark widths and shifts. These results and the measurements obtained in previous works were used here to analyse the main irregularities that can appear in the case of Xe II. This study may be very useful for obtaining Stark parameters of non-measured lines, using the known parameters of other lines belonging to similar transitions.

Stark widths and shifts of 7 Ne II spectral lines in the multiplet (3P)3p(4P°)‐(3P)3d(4D) have been measured in a low‐pressure pulsed arc plasma. The maximal electron density and temperature was 2×l023m−3 and 43000K respectively. The parameters measurements show clear regularities than can be used for predicting other parameters with precision.

The Stark shift of Ar II 472.68 nm (transition 4s2P − 4p2D°) spectral lines emitted from T‐tube plasmas was considered. The electron density ranged from (1.63–2.2)⋅1023 m−3 and was determined using laser interferometry. The plasma temperature, derived from the Gaussian part of recorded line profiles was found to be in the range (15000–43300) K. Experimental shifts were compared to theoretical values obtained from the semiempirical formula [M. S. Dimitrijevic and N. Konjevic, J. Quant. Spectrosc. Radiat. Transfer 24, 451 (1980)]. This comparison showed good agreement between experimental results and theory.
