Abstract Tetraalloxygermanium(IV), (CH 2 ·CH·CH 2 ·O) 4 Ge, has been synthesized from germanium tetrachloride, allyl alcohol, and ammonia. The alloxides [(CH 2 ·CH· CH 2 ·O) 4 Ti] 2 and[(CH 2 ·CH·CH 2 O) 5 M] 2 (M = Nb and Ta) have been synthesized by reactions of the corresponding metal isopropoxides with allyl alcohol followed by removal of the isopropanol by azeotropic distillation with benzene. These four metal alloxides can be purified by distillation under reduced pressure. The spectroscopic properties of these new compounds are discussed.

Abstract 1,3-Bis(boryloxy)tetraalkyldistannoxanes, , R = Me, Bu; G = CMe2CH2CHMe—, —CMe2 —CMe2 — and —CHMe—CH2 — have been prepared from dialkyltin oxide and pyroborate, or directly from dialkyltin oxide, boric acid and glycol. A dimeric structure for these compounds is proposed on the basis of molecular weight, IR and PMR studies. The reactivity of the SnOB bond towards PhNCO and Me3SiCl has been demonstrated.

Abstract Tris(trialkyltin) borates B(OSnR3)3 (R = Me, Et, Pr, Bu, i-Bu and Ph) have been prepared by esterification of boric acid with trialkyltin hydroxide or bis(trialkyltin) oxide. These reacted with boric anhydride to give the corresponding trialkyltin metaborates (R3SnOBO)3. Reactions of tris(tributyltin) borate with hydrogen chloride, acetyl chloride, acetic acid, acetic anhydride, phenol, butanethiol, thiophenol and isopropyl acetate have been studied. The infrared spectra of these compounds are discussed.

Abstract Some 2-(trimethylsiloxy)-1,3,2-dioxaborolanes and borinanes have been synthesized by cleavage of corresponding trialkyltin or germanium derivatives with trimethylchlorosilane. Bis(4,4,6-trimethyl-1,3,2-dioxaborinane-2-oxy)-dimethylsiloxane was also synthesized by the reaction of triphenyltin derivative with dimethyldichlorosilane in (2:1) molar ratio. Some physical measurements, e.g., molecular weights, infra-red and p.m.r. spectra have been recorded.
