An investigation path starting from (Mn,Ni,Co,Fe)3O4 nanometric powder preparation, NTC thick-film characterization, realization and optimization of new planar thermistor geometries to custom design thermistors and their application for temperature and volume airflow sensors was recently determined. The aim was to make custom designed segmented NTC thermistors printed and sintered on alumina. Two types of volume airflow sensors were formed: indirectly heated and self-heated. A pair of segmented thermistors was placed in an air guide and connected to differential branches of the Wheatstone bridge. A heater was placed in the middle between the thermistors for the indirectly heated type, while for the self-heated type the same thermistors were self-heated by a constant current source. First the thermistor responses vs. the airflow (calibration curves) were measured, and then thermistor responses in time (inertia) to fast airflow changes from the minimum to the maxi

This paper describes the fabrication and the characterization of an original example of a miniaturized resistive-type humidity sensor, printed on flexible substrate in a large-scale manner. The fabrication process involves laser ablation for the design of interdigitated electrodes on PET (Poly-Ethylene Terephthalate) substrate and a screen-printing process for the deposition of the sensitive material, which is based on TiO2 nanoparticles. The laser ablation process was carefully optimized to obtain micro-scale and well-resolved electrodes on PET substrate. A functional paste based on cellulose was prepared in order to allow the precise screen-printing of the TiO2 nanoparticles as sensing material on the top of the electrodes. The current against voltage (I–V) characteristic of the sensor showed good linearity and potential for low-power operation. The results of a humidity-sensing investigation and mechanical testing showed that the fabricated miniaturized sensors have excellent mechanical stability, sensing characteristics, good repeatability, and relatively fast response/recovery times operating at room temperature.

Thermal and electron transport properties of NiO single crystal were determined using the photoacoustic frequency transmission technique. Thermal diffusivity, coefficient of carrier diffusion, their lifetime, and the front and rear recombination velocity were calculated by comparing the experimental results with the theoretical photoacoustic amplitude and phase signals. As far as we know, no photoacoustic measurements on NiO samples have been made by now.
