Ternary Al–Ni–Ru phases

Four stable ternary crystalline phases were identified in the Al-rich part of the Al–Ni–Ru phase diagram using powder X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy. They are monoclinic with an approximate composition of Al82.4Ni12.0Ru5.6 (a=0.8636(3) nm, b=0.6333(2) nm, c=0.6273(3) nm, β=95.12(3)°, isostructural to Al9Co2), hexagonal with a composition of Al75.5Ni16.0Ru8.5 (a=1.2132(3) nm and c=2.7020(9) nm), orthorhombic with a composition of Al76.0Ni8.0Ru16.0 (a=1.4960(6) nm, b=0.8253(3) nm, c=1.2668(6) nm, isostructural to O-Al13Co4) and cubic with a composition of Al71.8Ni11.2Ru17.0 (a=0.7674(2) nm, isostructural to C-Al5Rh2).
