The Ar resonant Auger spectra have been recorded in Raman conditions at a photon energy of 249 eV corresponding to the Ar 2p 1/2 → 3d excitation. The high experimental resolution allowed us to resolve the fine structure in the resonant Auger spectra in much greater detail than obtained previously. Experimental individual angular anisotropy β parameter values of the Ar 2p -1 1/2 3d 3p 4 nl transitions are compared with the results of theoretical calculations carried out in a multi-configuration Dirac-Fock approach with different configuration expansions.

Auger electron and partial ion yield spectra of atomic Cs have been measured at the 4d−15/26p excitation resonance and above the 4d ionization threshold using monochromatized synchrotron radiation. The ion production obtained from the electron spectra is compared with the results of the partial ion yield spectra. The experimental findings are compared with the theoretical predictions obtained using the multiconfiguration Dirac–Fock approach and with results for the neighbouring closed-shell atom, Xe.

Previously we reported an interionic Auger decay following the VUV resonant excitations of the metal atom in the alkali halide molecules. Opening and closing of the spectator Auger decay channel was found to strongly influence the lineshape of the participator decay transitions, an effect attributed to the changes in the lifetime of the VUV-excited state. In this work, the VUV excitation and the following electronic decay of the resonant states of rubidium halides is studied. A series of electron spectra have been measured at photon energies around the 4p → nl resonance excitation region. Experimental results and the theoretical modelling of the excitation and decay spectra are presented.

Non-monochromatized undulator radiation produced with two different undulator gaps was used to observe the Auger decay following 1s to 3p resonant excitation in atomic sodium. Experimental spectra were analysed by comparing with calculations carried out using the Hartree–Fock method with relativistic corrections. The spectra revealed a rich line structure due to the coupling of the holes created in the Auger decay with the electrons on the 3s and 3p subshells. The results of the analysis also suggest a strong shake-up behaviour of the spectator electron during the Auger decay.
