A Survey on Evaluation Schemes for Routing Misbehaviors in Manet

Rose Ann Cyril; S Saritha

Mobile ad hoc network has emerged as a trending topic of research in recent years owing to the highlighted pervasive computing culture. MANETs are decentralized, and therefore all network activities are carried out by nodes themselves. Transmissions are not controlled by any central authority as like base stations in the case of cellular networks. Each node is both an end-system as well as a relay node (router) to forward packets for other nodes. This requires that every node in the network contribute full cooperation as to cater to the routing needs of adhoc network. The route creation and maintenance tasks in Manet are autonomous operation. The flexibility of wireless transmission is however affected by its limitations as well like limited range, bandwidth, energy constraints etc. To cope up with these limitations, many a time’s mobile nodes may decide either not to cooperate or partially cooperate for the benefit of their own. This strategic dimension of mobile nodes to conserve energy may be detrimental to the health of efficient Manet systems. Selfishness substantially reduces the performance of network at the routing layer. The selfishness may also cause data loss making the scenario more badly. It is hence the need of the hour to discover the selfish nodes and device new schemes wherein data accessibility is never affected on varying environments.

Enhanced Performance of Engineering Students through REA: A Comparative Analysis

K. G. Preetha; S Saritha; Shimmi Asokan

This paper proposes a new framework for assessing the performance of Engineering students, viz., Revolution in Engineering Assessment (REA). REA is an innovative framework designed and developed exclusively for evaluating the comprehensive, problem solving, designing models, programming and application developing skills for all disciplines of engineering. REA evolves in different modes like general questionnaire, questionnaires with tip-off mode, enhanced graphical mode and crossword mode to evaluate all aspects of engineering skills. Experiments are done on batches/groups of engineering students to evaluate their comparative performance in terms of traditional mode of writing exams and the proposed framework. REA shows an over all improved performance of about 78% in engineering students. The result also pictures the enhanced performance of weaker students when evaluated through REA by a reasonable margin of 9%.

Semantic Association Mining on Spatial Patterns in Medical Images

S Saritha; G. SanthoshKumar

The advancement in the field of image mining owes the credibility to the discovery of significant image patterns from the archive. An important pattern of an image is the spatial displacement of objects in an image, and the term is coined as spatial relationship feature. In this paper, we incorporate the concept of spatial relationship into medical images. The spatial relationship of structures in the medical image is expressed in terms of fuzzy set theory, thus making the scenario closer to the semantics of the images. The fuzzy spatial relationships existing between the structures in the medical images are mined to identify relevant spatial patterns, so that characteristic knowledge generated is highly authentic for the medical domain under consideration. From the spatial patterns generated spatial association rules are deduced that can steer as an aid to medical diagnosis or rather new diagnosis rules.
