An antiinflammatory cum immunomodulatory piperidinylbenzopyranone from dysoxylum binectariferum : isolation, structure and total synthesis

Ramachandra Ganapati Dr Naik; Samba Laxminarayan Kattige; S. V. Bhat; Bipin Dhirajlal Dr. Alreja; N.J. de Souza; Richard Helmut Dr Rupp

Abstract (+)-cis -5,7-Dihydroxy-2-methyl-8-[4-(3-hydroxy-1-methyl) piperidinyl]-4 H -1-benzopyran-4-one was identified as the antiinflammatory cum immunomodulatory principle of the stem bark of Dysoxylum binectariferum. The sequence devised for its total synthesis was also used to synthesise its (-)-enantiomer and the racemate.

Abstract From the roots of Inula royleana DC (Compositae), two novel tricyclic diterpenoids, named inuroyleanol and 7-ketoroyleanone, have been isolated and their structures established. Inuroyleanol is 11,14-dihydroxy-12-methoxy-abieta-8,11,13-trien-7-one ( 3a ) and 7-ketoroyleanone is 12-hydroxy-abieta-8,12-dien-7,11,14-trione ( 1d ). Inuroyleanol provides a link in the series of naturally occurring oxidative metabolites of the ferruginol ( 2 ) skeleton.

Reactions of forskolin, a biologically active diterpenoid from Coleus forskohlii

S. V. Bhat; B. S. Bajwa; Horst Dornauer; Noel John De Souza

Forskolin (1)(7β-acetoxy-8,13-epoxy-1α,6β,9α-trihydroxylabd-14-en-11-one), the major diterpenoid of Coleus forskohlii, has potent positive inotropic, antihypertensive, and adenylate cyclase stimulant properties. The reactivity of its various functional groups (1α-OH, 6β-OH, the derived 7β;-OH, 9α-OH, 11-oxo, and 14,15-double bond) has been studied through acylation, alkylation, dehydration, oxidation, and reduction reactions.

An Unusual Reaction of Methyl 3,5-Dimethoxybenzoate with Thallium(III)Trinitrate - Trifluoro Acetic Acid

B. S. Bajwa; S. V. Bhat; J. Reden; N. J. De Souza; H. W. Fehlhaber

Abstract Thallium(III)trinitrate trihydrate (TTN) is known to be a useful and extremely versatile reagent in organic synthesis.1-5 Its use has been exploited mainly in oxidation and oxidative rearrangements of chalcones, aromatic ketones and phenols. In this communication, we report an unusual reaction of polyoxygenated methylbenzoates with TTN.
