The paper proposes a high-level model to represent spatio-temporal relations between Web sites or fragments of Web sites in order to facilitate resource discovery, cataloging or describe information. This model is based on the Resource Description Framework (RDF) recommendation of the World-Wide Web Consortium, a general purpose technology that enables the description of resources on the Web. The representation of the spatio-temporal relationships is expressed by an XML-based language.

Publisher Summary The chapter presents a semantic Web-based architecture used to discover Web resources within the Intranet of an enterprise. This platform for hypermedia resource is called ITW and is based on Web services and agents, exploiting the spatial/temporal relations related to Web resources. This system consists of a collection of Web services, software agents and other components. ITW uses a RDF/XML model for semantic representation of metadata and spatial and temporal relations between Web resources. All involved information within the system is XML-based and uses special languages for expressing metadata and temporal relationships between Web hypermedia documents. For further development, to increase the processing speed, for the next version it is intended to store the XML/RDF constructs within an XML native database and to implement simple reasoning services regarding the search.

The modern operating systems must integrate various Internet services, especially World-Wide Web facilities to access different Web resources using file system mechanisms. In this paper we present a highlevel model to access via Web the resources of a distributed file system. The proposed description is based on Resource Description Framework (RDF) recommendation of the World-Wide Web Consortium, a standardized foundation for processing metadata.

In order to optimize the information retrieval and adaptation facilities inside an e-learning system, there is necessary to improve accessibility and to correlate the educational materials, the users and the information. For this purpose, we present a semantic Web-based modeling approach for the materials annotations and user competences profile, based on the same domain ontology set. The ontologies constitute thus the binder between the materials and users, and we illustrate how their reasoning support contributes to the efficiency improvement of the search and adaptive Web services. As illustrative example, we present our developed I*Teach Web repository of educational scenarios.

In the field of Human-Computer Interaction, the Personas methodology is used to communicate the users preferences, goals, frustrations and requirements. Although a widely used method, little progress has been made in creating a personas model. This paper aims to provide such a conceptual model, which includes concepts and properties used in the personas methodology, via an OWL specification.

The paper presents an enhanced version of an existing wiki platform (XWiki), in order to integrate knowledge, based on various Semantic Web technologies. In particular, we describe how metadata, microformats, ontologies are meaningfully used in this context, and we show the utility of our approach via two use cases.

The purpose of this paper is to present the main characteristics of ADF an open source agent developing platform with a focus on agent collaboration. The basic architecture of the platform is investigated, and a reference implementation - based on Java 2 Enterprise Edition - is presented. Two short case studies (a reverse auction system and a meeting scheduling multi-agent system), that use current semantic Web technologies (such as RDF and OWL), illustrate the main features of the framework.

Abstract Various polydimethylsiloxane-co-poly(methacrylic acid) networks were prepared by initiating the radical polymerization of methacrylic acid in presence of azoester containing polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and of ethyleneglicole dimethacrilate as crosslinking agent. The chemical structure and the thermal behavior of these hydrophobic–hydrophilic gels were established by IR spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry. Also, the water delivery tests were performed and the possibility to use amphyphilic copolymers as systems to mention humidity in soil is discussed. According to the experimental results a mechanism of water delivery were proposed where the hydrophilic (poly(methacrylic acid)) and hydrophobic (PDMS) sequences have different rolls in this mechanism.

The paper studies the role of trust and reputation in e-Health communities. The trust concept is akin to a mechanism for quantifying the relationships that can be established between users. A trust and reputation module is integrated into a e-Health Service Oriented Architecture. Such a module provides a more reliable system for use. In addition, we discuss the possibility that the proposed module may be a part of the solutions that ensure the interoperability between different e-Health systems.

The paper presents a Java-based object-oriented system that offers a layered infrastructure to create the adequate framework for complex interactions between Grid components (e.g., agents of Web services). Using a shared-memory modeled by sets of tuples, our proposal can be considered as an abstract communication architecture for building Grid services.
