Nursing Students Experience in Emergency and Intensive Care in a Reference Hospital

Objective: To report the experiences and activities carried out by nursing students during practical activities in the Intensive Care Unit and Emergency Room at a referral hospital. Methods and results: This is an experience report of students from the nursing graduation course during the practical activities of the subjects Integral Attention to Health II, High Complexity module in Emergency and Intensive Care Unit of a reference state hospital in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, in the period from 18 November to 08 October 2015. The experience provided the students a dimension of the nursing care in the high complexity services. Thus, the results have been described considering the procedures and knowledge used and the concept of this experience to the students in the hospitals. Conclusion: During the development of the training activities, it is observed an important learning both individually and in groups of students. The progress in achieving the nursing care, the application of the clinical reasoning associated with the referenced theoretical basis are increasingly set in carrying out the practice. Quality Of Care Indicators Of A Pre-Hospital Mobile Emergency: A Review

Objective: To identify the quality of care indicators in pre-hospital mobile emergency services. Methods and results: This study is a systematic review conducted in December/2015 in eight databases using the keywords: quality indicators in health care; pre-hospital care; and quality, access, and evaluation of the health care. Seventeen studies were selected and the following indicators were identified: conservation of the ambulances; physical structure; comfort in the ambulance; material resources; safety for the patient/professional; continuing education; response time; professional remuneration; professional/patient satisfaction; access; host; humanization; performed service; safety demonstrated by the team; privacy to the patient; guidelines on care; relationship between the professional/patient; opportunity of the patient to complaint. Conclusion: The establishment the of the quality of care indicators the in mobile emergency services will allow the construction of instruments to evaluate this type of service to search for excellence results in mobile emergency services.

Challenges Faced by the Nursing Team in the Care of Burned Victim: Literature Review

Introduction: burned patient care needs the involvement of a multidisciplinary team, and nursing as a key role in this care since it is the professional category that is in constant contact with the patient and his family. However, nursing faces challenges on the care for burned victims and their constant exposure to suffering and pain. Objective: to identify the challenges of the nursing staff in the care of burned patients according to scientific literature. Method: this is a literature research, conducted between April and May/2016 in the Latin American databases and Caribbean Health Sciences (LILACS), the Nursing Database (BDENF) and the Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System online (MEDLINE), available on the Virtual Health Library (VHL), and Google Scholar, using the key words: “Nursing” and “Burn Units” with Boolean operator AND. The keywords crossing resulted in 282 scientific publications, of which 14 articles were selected addressing the topic, through the inclusion criteria: full-text availability, published between 2011 to May/2016, in Portuguese and English. The articles in duplicate (published in more than one selected database) were excluded. Results: The following challenges were observed in the nursing staff: assistance to the burned patient and guided planning in the Nursing Process (NP), related to the appropriate hemodynamic monitoring, control of infectious processes and pain; emotional professional support that the victims watch sensitized, exposed to pain, suffering, and guilt, often involved in the professional-patient-family cycle, arousing mixed feelings of grief and gratitude. Conclusions: It is necessary to understand these challenges and provide continuing education and inputs that support assistance guided to the nursing process. Moreover, it is essential to promote emotional support through health institution, encouraging professionals to report their anguish and difficulties to cope with the stressful and limiting factors in the work process involving the care of burned victims.
