The Effects of Thermal Radiation on an Unsteady MHD Axisymmetric Stagnation-Point Flow over a Shrinking Sheet in Presence of Temperature Dependent Thermal Conductivity with Navier Slip

Sabyasachi Mondal; Nageeb A. H. Haroun; Precious Sibanda

In this paper, the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) axisymmetric stagnation-point flow of an unsteady and electrically conducting incompressible viscous fluid in with temperature dependent thermal conductivity, thermal radiation and Navier slip is investigated. The flow is due to a shrinking surface that is shrunk axisymmetrically in its own plane with a linear velocity. The magnetic field is imposed normally to the sheet. The model equations that describe this fluid flow are solved by using the spectral relaxation method. Here, heat transfer processes are discussed for two different types of wall heating; (a) a prescribed surface temperature and (b) a prescribed surface heat flux. We discuss and evaluate how the various parameters affect the fluid flow, heat transfer and the temperature field with the aid of different graphical presentations and tabulated results.

An Unsteady Double-Diffusive Natural Convection in an Inclined Rectangular Enclosure with Different Angles of Magnetic Field

Sabyasachi Mondal; Precious Sibanda

An unsteady double-diffusive natural convection flow in an inclined rectangular enclosure subject to an applied magnetic field and heat generation parameter is studied. The enclosure is heated and concentrated from one side and cooled from the adjacent side. The other two sides are adiabatic. The governing equations are solved numerically using a staggered grid finite-difference method to determine the streamline, isotherm and iso-concentration contours. We have further obtained the average Nusselt numbers and average Sherwood numbers for various values of buoyancy ratio and different angles of the magnetic field by considering three different inclination angles of the enclosure while keeping the aspect ratio fixed. The results indicate that the flow pattern, temperature and concentration fields are significantly dependent on the buoyancy ratio and the magnetic field angles. It is found that different angles of the magnetic field suppress the convection flow and its direction influences the flow patterns. This leads to the appearance of inner loop and multiple eddies.

A multi-domain spectral method for non-Darcian mixed convection flow in a power-law fluid with viscous dissipation

I.S. Oyelakin; Sabyasachi Mondal; Precious Sibanda

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study is to investigate non-Darcian mixed convection flow, heat and mass transfer in a non-Newtonian power-law fluid over a flat plate embedded in porous medium with suction and viscous dissipation and also is to demonstrate the application and utility of a recently developed multi-domain bivariate spectral quasi-linearisation method (MD-BSQLM) in finding the solutions of highly nonlinear differential equations. The flow is subject to, among other source terms, internal heat generation, thermal radiation and partial velocity slip. The coupled system of nonlinear partial differential equations are solved using a MD-BSQLM to find the fluid properties, the skin friction, as well as the heat and mass coefficients. We have presented selected results that give the significance of some system parameters on the fluid properties. This MD-BSQLM has not been used before in the literature to find the nature of the solutions of power-law fluids. Indeed, validation of this numerical method for general fluid flows, heat and mass transfer problems has not yet been done. This study presents the first opportunity to evaluate the accuracy and robustness of the MD-BSQLM in finding solutions of non-Newtonian fluids.

On Unsteady Three-Dimensional Axisymmetric MHD Nanofluid Flow with Entropy Generation and Thermo-Diffusion Effects on a Non-Linear Stretching Sheet

The entropy generation in unsteady three-dimensional axisymmetric magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) nanofluid flow over a non-linearly stretching sheet is investigated. The flow is subject to thermal radiation and a chemical reaction. The conservation equations are solved using the spectral quasi-linearization method. The novelty of the work is in the study of entropy generation in three-dimensional axisymmetric MHD nanofluid and the choice of the spectral quasi-linearization method as the solution method. The effects of Brownian motion and thermophoresis are also taken into account. The nanofluid particle volume fraction on the boundary is passively controlled. The results show that as the Hartmann number increases, both the Nusselt number and the Sherwood number decrease, whereas the skin friction increases. It is further shown that an increase in the thermal radiation parameter corresponds to a decrease in the Nusselt number. Moreover, entropy generation increases with respect to some physical parameters.

An unsteady MHD Maxwell nanofluid flow with convective boundary conditions using spectral local linearization method

Hloniphile Sithole; Sabyasachi Mondal; Precious Sibanda; S. S. Motsa

Abstract The main focus of this study is on unsteady Maxwell nanofluid flow over a shrinking surface with convective and slip boundary conditions. The objective is to give an evaluation of the impact and significance of Brownian motion and thermophoresis when the nanofluid particle volume fraction flux at the boundary is zero. The transformed equations are solved numerically using the spectral local linearization method. We present an analysis of the residual errors to show the accuracy and convergence of the spectral local linearization method. We explore the effect of magnetic field and thermophoresis parameters on the heat transfer rate. We show, among other results, that an increase in particle Brownian motion leads to a decrease in the concentration profiles but concentration profiles increase with the increasing value of thermophoresis parameter

Unsteady mixed convection flow through a permeable stretching flat surface with partial slip effects through MHD nanofluid using spectral relaxation method

Sami M. S. Ahamed; Sabyasachi Mondal; Precious Sibanda

Abstract An unsteady, laminar, mixed convective stagnation point nanofluid flow through a permeable stretching flat surface using internal heat source or sink and partial slip is investigated. The effects of thermophoresis and Brownian motion parameters are revised on the traditional model of nanofluid for which nanofluid particle volume fraction is passively controlled on the boundary. Spectral relaxation method is applied here to solve the non-dimensional conservation equations. The results show the illustration of the impact of skin friction coefficient, different physical parameters, and the heat transfer rate. The nanofluid motion is enhanced with increase in the value of the internal heat sink or source. On the other hand, the rate of heat transfer on the stretching sheet and the skin friction coefficient are reduced by an increase in internal heat generation. This study further shows that the velocity slip increases with decrease in the rate of heat transfer. The outcome results are benchmarked with previously published results.
