Verruciform xanthoma on the scrotum.

Shinichi Nakamura; Sachio Kanamori; Keiji Nakayama; Masako Aoki

A case of 80‐year‐old man with a verruciform xanthoma on the right side of the scrotum was reported. The tumor was examined histologically by light and electron microscope. We surveyed the literature and found 25 Japanese cases and 11 foreign cases in the skin. We also reviewed the pathogenesis and the location of this disease.

We report on 2 cases of renal cell carcinoma with solitary contralateral adrenal metastasis which was demonstrated six months and one year, respectively, after radical nephrectomy. Pulmonary metastases developed six months after adrenalectomy in 1 patient; the other patient is alive without any evidence of disease twenty-two months after adrenalectomy.

Longitudinal study of percentage of macrophages among leukocytes in prostatic fluid from 10 patients with nonbacterial prostatitis did not show correlation between percentage of macrophages and severity of clinical symptoms.

Penis tuberculid (papulonecrotic tuberculid of the glans penis): treatment with a combination of rifampicin and an extract from tubercle bacilli (T.B. vaccine).

Shinichi Nakamura; Masako Aoki; Keiji Nakayama; Sachio Kanamori; Shutaro Onda

A case of penis tuberculid (papulonecrotic tuberculid of the glans penis) and its treatment with combination of oral rifampicin (RFP) and injection of an extract from tubercle bacilli (T.B. vaccine) were reported. We also examined the literature and discovered 37 cases of this disease in Japan in the last 10 years (between 1978 and 1987).

Divergence of contact hypersensitivity in vivo compared with hapten-specific lymphocyte proliferation and interferon-γ production in vitro following ultraviolet B irradiation: the possibility that UVB does not affect the sensitizing phase of contact hypersensitivity

Kayano Suzuki; Sachio Kanamori; Kaori Takada; Seiji Kawana

A hapten‐specific lymphocyte proliferation assay, which measures the in vitro stimulation of DNA synthesis (as assessed by [3H]thymidine incorporation), was used to determine systemic immunization induced by an epicutaneously applied hapten in addition to the more commonly used method which measures ear (or footpad) swelling. 2,4‐Dinitrofluorobenzene (DNFB) was painted on the shaved backs of C57BL/6 mice for two consecutive days after ultraviolet B (UVB) irradiation (at 1000 J/m2), and DNFB‐sensitized lymph node cells (LNC) were obtained from the regional lymph nodes 4 days later. Although the ear swelling response (ESR) was suppressed by UVB radiation, as previously reported, analysis of LNC culture supernatants showed that the production of interferon‐γ, a Tc1‐type cytokine, was not inhibited by the UVB irradiation. In addition, contact dermatitis was induced (at levels similar to those of non‐irradiated mice) by painting DNFB on the abdomen as a secondary response. We then examined the effect of UVB exposure alone on the ESR by injecting a mast cell degranulator, compound 48/80, 7 days after irradiation. Both the ESR and the percentage of degranulated mast cells were significantly reduced in UVB‐irradiated mice. These results demonstrate that UVB irradiation does not affect the sensitizing phase of contact hypersensitivity, but modulates the elicitation phase and reduces the ESR primarily by suppressing the degranulation of mast cells. Therefore, suppression of the ESR alone cannot always be considered as hapten‐specific immunotolerance.

Percutaneous nephrolithotomy: With emphasis on large renal stones

Taiji Nishimura; Hiroyuki Abe; Narumi Tsuboi; Makoto Hara; Sachio Kanamori; Satoshi Okumura; Kazuhiro Yoshida; Masao Akimoto

With utilization of safety guide wire, dilator (up to 36F), and Mazzariello-Caprini forceps, percutaneous removal of renal stone was successfully performed in 18 cases, including 5 cases with staghorn calculus, although parts of the staghorn calculus were left in 4 cases. Attempts at stone extraction were performed on the day nephrostomy was made. All of the renal stones excluding staghorn calculi were removed without disruption followed by satisfactory postoperative renal function. Unexpectedly Kocher forceps was found to be a useful and relatively safe instrument for quick fragmentation and removal of staghorn calculi.

A papilloma in the renal pelvis of a five-year-old girl is reported. The transitional cell tumors of the renal pelvis in the pediatric age group are reviewed, and this is found to be the first case of a benign papilloma in childhood. We believe this pathologic entity should be included in the differential diagnosis of hematuria in a child.

Partial Purification, Physicochemical Characterization and Biological Function of a Rosette-Decreasing Factor (RDF) Extracted from Guinea Pig Thymus

Ayako Mabuchi; Sachio Kanamori; Kozo Yokomuro; Yoshitami Kimura

A factor that decreases rosette formation between guinea pig T‐cells and rabbit red blood cells (RRBC) was extracted from the thymus of the guinea pig.
