Efficient Way of Skull Stripping in MRI to Detect Brain Tumor by Applying Morphological Operations, after Detection of False Background

Brain MRI is used to get deeper view of the brain conditions. Skull stripping is a major phase sometimes refers to a pre-process in MRI brain imaging applications which refers to the removal of brain non-cerebral tissues. Various algorithms have been developed to improve the effectiveness of stripping skull from MRI. Morphological algorithms of “Erosion” and “Dilation” are recursively applied together to remove the skull. Besides the removal of skull, “erosion” distorts some cerebral tissues due to the presence of falsebackground. So “Dilation” process is applied for the restoration. In this study, we improved the efficiency of stripping skull in MRI using systematic application of “Erosion” with AOI (Area of Interest) approach after the detection of false-background. Before applying “Erosion”, a false back ground is detected. We identified the skull boundary through Dilation and then used scan line algorithm to fill the false background area. Consequently “Erosion” algorithm will only erode the AOI, resulting in the stripping of skull without any effect on the other tissues of the brain. Results show that the accuracy rate up to 95% is obtained and 43% efficiency is increased as compared to the different morphological techniques used previously.

With the rapid development in serious games, health games have been demonstrated as a useful tool to enhance treatment effects with respect to some problematic behaviors. Every health game has its own game design which can affect the health in a positive manner. In this paper we fixed Imagery Psychotherapy into game design and then developed the 3D Graphical Imagery Psychotherapy video game with cognitive behavioral effects on the children suffering from brain tumor. This therapeutic game attempts to provide a new way to target the psychological illness related to this disease. Experimental user tests were conducted in three hospitals of Pakistan analyzing the different problematic behaviors of a cancer patient before and after the therapy application. The outcome of the study proved that 3D Graphical Imagery Therapy game has been effective in recovering from psychological illness related to brain tumor. The results showed a significant improvement regarding the behaviors, hence this game design found to be effective.

Digitizing 2D sketched Animated Character for GraphicalImagery Therapy (GIT) Game

Sadaf Sajjad; Sajjad Mohsin; Sahar Riaz; Abdul Hanan Abdullah

The paper centers on the digitizing of 2D sketched animated character, to be incorporated in game environment aimed at Graphical Imagery therapy. Two aspects are taken into account: The healing pattern of visual therapy through the use of colors, shapes and form and the use of designing software compatible for gaming software. The character is designed in 3D Studio Max. This software has integrated modeling and animation tools with visual effects and game compatibility. The character is developed through a “sphere” and modifiers are applied to change the shape into a tumor character. Textures are applied and final character is developed by adding bones to make its multiple moves. It is made compatible for game software while exporting it from .max to .fbx extension. The result depicts the designing of proposed 3D enemy character, symbolizing ugly tumor with human features. The final exported extension is easily incorporated in gaming environment.
