Power-based supplier selection in product development projects

Marc Zolghadri; Claudia Eckert; Salah Zouggar; Philippe Girard

As stronger supplier might exert their power to influence a product development project for their own benefit, business negotiations will be more efficient if the customer has a clear understanding of its power with regards to each of its potential suppliers. This article takes the customer perspective in dealing with supplier selection and proposes a method to estimate the power of a customer versus potential suppliers. Based on an evaluation of their power, potential suppliers are then ranked. This selection procedure is illustrated with an example and evaluated against a case study taken from academic literature.

Structuring Interdependencies between Products and Networks of Partners

Marc Zolghadri; Salah Zouggar; Rahi Rassoulifar; Philippe Girard

Companies face new coordination challenges for product development projects in terms of technical and technological issues and internal or external resources. Projects managers have to deliver successful products on time and to budget and need to minimize industrial risks, while building up long term links across their supply chains. This paper describes briefly the Co-Evolution of Products and Network of PartnerS (CEPS) and insists on dependency the main concept behind it. CEPS is a framework that considers simultaneously the product development process and the design/deployment of associated network of partners. The CEPS tools look for understanding and identifying mutual dependencies between these two fields. This will provide management drivers for designers and managers.

Implication au plus tôt des fournisseurs dans les projets de développement de produits nouveaux: Avantages, risques et impératifs

Marc Zolghadri; Salah Zouggar; Rahi Rasoulifar; Philippe Girard

Studying the consequences of the Early Supplier Involvement in product development projects aims at providing drivers for companies to increase chances to conquer new markets. The objective of this paper is to provide a survey of results pointing out not only the positive consequences but also those potential industrial risks that a company may face with while integrating early suppliers in the product development process. A set of structured drivers for designing a sustainable network of partners is finally suggested.Studying the consequences of the Early Supplier Involvement in product development projects aims at providing drivers for companies to increase chances to conquer new markets. Network Compatibility Blocs as Basis of Partner’s Selection

Salah Zouggar; Marc Zolghadri; Xin Zhang; Philippe Girard

The aim of this paper is to contribute to partner’s network design beyond the common partner’s selection process usually made in the literature. The originality of our approach lies in compatibility concept that comes to consolidate the ordinary approach of partner’s selection. We suggest the use of product architecture to extract its related network of partners that would be analyzed with paying attention not only to the efficiency of each required partner within the network, but also to its compatibility with other actors. The gBOMO (generalised Bill Of Materials and Operations) concept becomes significant tool that we intensively use in order to detect the imperatives of realization phase of manufactured product. We will develop exploratory ideas about the network compatibility blocs. These ideas allow a better understanding of partner’s compatibility requirements within network.
