Objective: To identify the profile of Nursing diagnoses in heart‑transplanted patients in the postoperative period from the Taxonomy II of the North‑American Nursing Diagnosis Association, and to discuss them using Horta’s assumptions and scientific literature. Method: A retrospective, descriptive, exploratory study performed in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais State, Brazil, in a large‑sized general hospital. The sample consisted of 49 adult patients, aged ≥18 and <60 years, of both genders, heart‑transplanted subjects in the postoperative period. Data were collected from patient records. Results: We identified 12 Nursing diagnoses, divided into 10 real and two potential ones, 100% belonging to the psychobiological basic human need. Conclusion: There was not a diagnostic identification for psychosocial and psychospiritual needs. According to Horta, the biologicist paradigm moves Nursing career to the patient’s fragmentation, keeps nurse in alienation, and is opposed to the pragmatic focused on holism.

OBJECTIVE To investigate associations between metabolic syndrome (MS) and 24-hour blood pressure parameters as a measure of cardiovascular risk (CVR). SUBJECTS AND METHODS 136 hypertensive subjects, of both sexes, aged between 29 and 83 years were studied. CVR was defined as having at least three of the following conditions: 1) systolic/diastolic blood pressure (BP) ≥ 140/90 mmHg, absence/attenuation of nighttime fall in BP during sleep, pulse pressure (PP) ≥ 53 mmHg; 2) 24-h PP > 53 mmHg, 3) nighttime PP > 53 mmHg, 4) daytime PP > 53 mmHg and 5) nighttime fall in BP during sleep. RESULTS The 24-h PP, daytime PP and nighttime PP were elevated in 54% of the population. Hypertriglyceridemia (52%), low HDL (72.8%), abdominal obesity (60.3%), MS (58.1%), dyslipidemia (88.8%), overweight (74.3%) and obesity (33.8%) were also elevated. Age-adjusted MS was associated with higher CVR (OR = 4.5 and 3.6), 24-h PP (OR = 2.3 and 4.7), and daytime PP (OR = 2.2 and 4.6). CONCLUSIONS MS was highly prevalent and correlated with altered 24-hour blood pressure parameters.

Objective: To understand the feelings of ostomized patients with colorectal cancer. Methods: Reports of interview respondents were transcribed and analyzed under the theoretical framework of content analysis in its thematic modality. Patients interviewed were hospitalized in the coloproctology and oncology clinics of a large hospital in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Results: Two categories emerged: “coping with and facing feelings related to the stoma” and “influences on the visions of sexuality and marital relationship”. These were then divided into subcategories. Conclusion: a change of perspective on the care of these patients is suggested, with focus on training of professionals who deal with them, so they are assisted in an integrated and humanistic way, thus minimizing difficulties faced by both the patient and the health professional.
