Zeolite MFI membranes were successfully prepared on both alumina and stainless steel tubular supports by crystallization of previously deposited silicate layers under a steam atmosphere. The resultant membranes were able to separate n/isobutane mixtures at relatively high temperatures, displaying separation selectivities of 11.3, 8.9 and 2.5 at 100, 230 and 330 °C, respectively.

A series of cationic dyes, methylene blue (MB), safranin O (SF), toluidine blue (TB), and neutral red (NR), were successfully incorporated into a silica matrix by using ultrasound irradiation during the Stober process. Several analyses were performed, including scanning dynamic light scattering (DLS), electron microscopy (SEM), nitrogen physisorption, FTIR spectroscopy, UV-vis, and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. The entrapped dyes on silica were evaluated in singlet oxygen (1O2) generation under visible light irradiation, by means of the photosensitized oxidation of 9,10-dimethylanthracene (DMA). According to the results, the photocatalytic performance of the silica composites was improved, and the leakage of the dye from the particles was suppressed. Among these four different types of dye-doped silica composites, the SiO2-SF composite showed the most efficient delivery of 1O2.

In the present work, beta zeolites were prepared by an alternative route called steam-assisted conversion (SAC). Several zeolites were synthesized using amorphous dry gels with a low SDA concentration (0.09 mol, TEAOH). Temperature and crystallization time were the main parameters studied. X-ray diffraction (XRD), infrared spectroscopy (IR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were the characterization techniques employed. The zeolites prepared showed mixed phases such as beta, MTW and ZSM-5 while only one sample treated at 150oC with 24 h of crystallization time showed a pure ZSM-5 phase (SAC-5). These preliminary results serve as a starting point for optimizing the synthesis of a specific type of zeolite using the SAC method.
