Assessing demand side flexibility with renewable energy resources

Sambeet Mishra; Hardi Koduvere; Ivo Palu; Reeli Kuhi-Thalfeldt; Argo Rosin

In the perspective of network operators, demand response (DR) is a form of shaping of the overall consumption in the system by peak clipping and shifting. Bearing the necessity and importance and the role of DR in the overall system in focus, the objective of the paper is to extend an analysis on the flexibility of the demand. The potential and the corresponding cost for demand flexibility of different levels in private households is determined from literature. Following that, consumption in a residential house in Nordic Europe climatic conditions was measured. In order to identify the patterns and categorize the consumption, a clustering algorithm is implemented on time-series load demand based on the trend using Wards agglomerative hierarchical clustering to formulate classifications. Using the classifications, a model was simulated in GAMS based Balmorel platform, which chooses optimal operation scheme for categorised loads. Two distinct models were created. One as in grid integrated, where market price acts as an incentive and second as islanded mode, where the resource availability is the motivation. The resulting consumption profiles and the decision making economic stand-point of flexibility offered by means of DR are discussed. The dendogram of the associated individual devices in the consumption pattern confirms that the weekend and weekday pattern of consumption are of different construct. However, same devices provide different flexibility whether operating on workdays or weekends. Modelling results indicate an overall increase in the efficiency of energy consumption with a demand-shifting possibility. In analysis, no attention was paid to type nor price of devices that allow to control individual appliances.

An Efficient Wavelet based Automation Process for E-Admission in Universities of Odisha

Ghanashyam Rout; Sreedhar Madichetty; Sambeet Mishra; Srikanta Pattnaik

E-admission or electronic admission is an electronic mechanism which convert the traditional office paper processes into electronic processes. In this type of admission, It creates a paperless system which is done in web based network. This is an Internet Communication Tool, which would improve the performance in admission in Universities of Odisha. E-admission can encompass both intra-office and inter-office communication for any Universities of Odisha. The main objective is to introduce total transparency and accountability leading to better E-Governance with in any Universities of Odisha. This type initiative is especially targeted at any Universities of India or world where public accountability is of special concern. Similar processes are being developed in many universities to aid compliance with the educational act. This paper introduces a noble solution for E-admission through an efficient automatic software technique. The solution is more customer centric rather than organization centric. It is also independent of any specific individual and hence confirms the ethics of transparency. The process of E-admission is implemented by a distributive cooperative algorithm & PSO based algorithm for fast searching. The data protection is achieved through wavelet techniques.

Modelling of solar-wind hybrid renewable energy system architectures

Sambeet Mishra; Hardi Koduvere; Ivo Palu; Reeli Kuhi-Thalfeldt

Solar and wind are the most promising among the renewable energy sources. The objective of this paper is to investigate the optimal techno-economically feasible model to mitigate a large scale demand in decentralized scenario. Solar, and wind energy potential in a hybrid scenario is closely assessed with an intermittent support from diesel generator and battery banks. Based on the general usage of appliances in a residential demand for 200 families that comprises of 1000 people a suitable load pattern is developed for this study. Demand in northern Europe predominantly constitutes of heating requirement in the form of water and space heating. The proposed model demonstrates convincing reliability in terms of techno-economical prospective. EnergyPRO, HOMER, and Balmorel software environments were used to simulate the models, results are assessed in the paper.

A user interface tool for ramping behavior analysis of renewable energy

Sambeet Mishra; Ivo Palu

Significant increase in the proportion of uncertain and variable wind and solar power in the electric grid has increased the undesirable effects on the voltage, frequency and transient stability. Identifying the fluctuations, particularly for the renewable resources of energy results in more reliable and cost effective use of the resources. In addition, the capacity building and forecasting can be more accurate. This paper proposes an algorithm to demonstrate the ramping behavior of the wind and solar power. In addition, a user interface tool is designed and developed in the MATLAB platform, which fastens the visualization and inference of the power variation events in multiple perspectives.

A study on the contact technology of nanomaterial and characterization of the ohmic contact layer in Cds-Al junction

Sambeet Mishra; C. K. Panigrahi; Ritesh Dash

Incorporating the understanding of contact technology, its related problems and the possible solutions is utmost necessary in this era in order to achieve results which will ultimately show better device performance. The contact layer electrically couples metal layer with semiconductor layer and forms a semiconducting contact having low specific contact resistance. The fact that ohmic contact plays a major role in the performances of the devices cannot be overlooked; and owing to good ohmic contacts the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of devices gets improved. There are a lot of possible uses of the ohmic contacts in a variety of devices; one such is in the solar cells. Like ohmic contact, another thing that needs attention is the deposition method. A large number of experiments are being conducted on the blessed substance, Cadmium Sulphide, owing to the numerous advantages those are accompanied with the substance. Such an attempt was taken and the rigorous experiment was successfully conducted. The observation data were taken and the calculation was done. The values of bulk resistivity, number of charge carriers, contact resistivity, transfer length, sheet resistivity, contact resistance, electron affinity, and barrier height were found out. Upon completion, the desirable result was obtained and graph was plotted and all the processes were described.
