A Novel Technique for Generation of Test Cases based on Bee Colony Optimization and Modified Genetic Algorithm (BCOmGA)

Sandeep Dalal; Rajender Singh Chhillar

Software testing is the most important phase of software development life cycle which ensures the quality of software systems. This paper proposes a novel approach for generation of test cases from “Unified Modeling Language” (UML). The Test Case Selection and Reduction is done by using Stratified Sampling, Bee Colony Optimization and Genetic Algorithm. This aims to save cost, time and effort by efficiently minimizing the test suite to ensure maximum coverage. We have applied this technique to a module of a Card Administration System project taken from Software Company. The result shows that the proposed approach effectively detects all the flaws by covering all possible paths of the system. The proposed software testing technique (BCO-mGA) ensures maximum coverage in minimum possible timeframe by executing the final minimized test suite.

Empirical study of root cause analysis of software failure

Sandeep Dalal; Rajender Singh Chhillar

Root Cause Analysis (RCA) is the process of identifying project issues, correcting them and taking preventive actions to avoid occurrences of such issues in the future. Issues could be variance in schedule, effort, cost, productivity, expected results of software, performance parameters and customer satisfaction. RCA also involves collecting valid data, analyzing it, deriving metrics and finding root causes using RCA methods. In this paper we will do Root cause analysis of some severe software failures that happened in the past and of some failures in ongoing projects in the software Industry. We will also describe various RCA methods and processes used in the software Industry to reduce the chances of software failure.

Measurement of Design Complexity of Different types of Inheritance using Cohesion Metrics

Ankita Mann; Sandeep Dalal; Neetu Dabas

Main aim of Software Engineering is to increase quality and maintain Software Product. Inheritance reflects the degree of reusability of existing classes and reuse increases productivity. Most Cohesion Metric tool do not consider inherited elements while measuring cohesion but we can measure design quality by including the concept of inheritance in Cohesion metrics. In this paper values of all cohesion metrics (LCOM1, LCOM2, LCOM3, LCOM4, LCOM5, CO, TCC and LCC) is calculated including the concept of inheritance for Single, Multiple, Multilevel and Hierarchical Inheritance and compare results to determine design complexity of various types of Inheritances.

Software Testing-Three P'S Paradigm and Limitations

Sandeep Dalal; Rajender Singh Chhillar

Software Testing is an important area of research in the field of software engineering because it is the deciding factor for successful project release and directly proportion to software quality and reliability. A lot of research has been already done in this field, likely to be leveraged in future as software has become integral part of each and every domain to make it faster, easier and smarter. Software testing is regarded as the most important phase of software development process, as without testing it is impossible to diagnose errors. This paper explains the phases, principles and limitations of software testing. We tried to accumulate principles after detailed analysis of phases of testing, based on available methodologies, users involved & importance of software testing. All the terms which are considered as building blocks of software testing are discussed in this paper to enhance the overall quality of a system and to ensure successful project release. A Novel Approach of Message Encryption based on Steganography and Watermarking

Sonia Bansal; Sandeep Dalal

after rapid development of encryption and decryption algorithms, the communication channels still face acute threat of illegal intelligence gathering. The science of steganography has also simultaneously emerged as a means of covert communication. One major reason is spread of digital images as means for passing classified information include the easy distribution, easy coping and simple means of modification. This is so vital that the aspect of image content modification and protection has become a major security issue. Recently, fragile watermarking has been used as a technique to achieve image authentication and tampering localization. The main purpose of this work is to present an algorithm for generation of stego file based on alternative watermarking. In this paper, we present an implementation of a fragile image modification scheme for classified communication. This scheme is based on chaos theory wherein a labile signal that is sensitive to modifications is embedded in the image so as to detect the image (and thus textual) tampering inconsistency. This approach can be implemented for content authentication. Keywordstext, Cover image, Decryption, Encryption, Encryption Algorithm, Fragile watermarking, LSB, Plain text, Stego image.

Histogram Equilization on Wavelet based Compression Techniques

Sandeep Dalal; Poonam Rani

This paper analyzes the effect of histogram equalization on the wavelet based compression techniques. Image compression is reducing the size of an image using one of the encoding techniques. Encoding helps in saving disk space by representing the same data in lesser number of bytes. Histogram is a graphical representation of intensity distribution of an image. It expresses the number of pixel values for each intensity value of an image. Histogram Equalization is a method used to improve the contrast of an image to stretch out the full range of an intensity .Comparison among algorithms has been made with respect to PSNR (Peak signal to noise ratio), MSE (Mean square error), MAE (Mean Absolute Error), L2RAT, Compression ratio.

Routing based Congestion Control Metric: RFR

Sandeep Dalal; Renu Ruhil

Mobile adhoc network is self configurable and adaptive. Due to node mobility we cannot predict load on the network which leads to congestion, one of the widely researched area in manets. A lot of congestion control techniques and metrics have been proposed to overcome it before its occurrence or after it has occurred. In this survey we identify the currently used congestion control metrics. Through this survey we also propose a congestion control metric RFR(resource free ratio) which considers the three most important parameters to provide congestion free route discovery. Further we show the results of node selection based on fuzzy logic calculations using the proposed metric.
