A Metadata Schema Design on Representation of Sensory Effect Information for Sensible Media and its Service Framework using UPnP

Shinjee Pyo; Sanghyun Joo; Bum-Suk Choi; Munchurl Kim; Jae-Gon Kim

With advent of various media services and development of audio and video devices, we can enjoy the media more effectively and realistically. Conventional media content is presented mostly via speakers, TV and LCD monitors. Beyond the media rendering only, if the media contents interlink with peripheral devices when being playbacked, it is possible to make fascinating effects on audiovisual media contents. In this paper, we suggest a device rendered sensible media and metadata schema for representing the effect and control information and design a service framework for device rendered sensible media based on UPnP framework.

Introduction to editable visual object and its description schema for mobile applications

Jiwon Lee; Si-Hwan Jang; Sanghyun Joo

Abstract With the spread of portable smart devices, social networking services are gaining popularity. At the same time, emoticons which can be used a primary tool to deliver the enriched personal feelings are also gaining popularity in the social networking services. Now, emoticon markets are much bigger than before since the territory of emoticons broadens the culture and social issues. However, provided emoticons from the service providers are difficult to express the exact personalized feeling. Thus, users cannot edit what they want to express. In this study, we propose a new concept of emoticons, an editable visual object, to resolve above problems. User can edit the components inside the proposed editable visual object and send it to express exact intention. Further, we propose an efficient editable visual object description schema to represent and transmit the editable visual object. To prove the performance and efficiency of proposed technique, we implement and test the prototype system for the mobile device. As shown in the test results, the proposed description method is at most 100 times superior to the compared screen capturing method in the view of transmission bandwidth. The proposed editable visual object can be exploited not only mobile applications, but also various fields such as education and medical field.

Simulated Annealing for the Design of Location Management System and Relation Map

Si-Hwan Jang; Sung-Soo Kim; Sanghyun Joo

Location area planning problem means partitioning the mobile network into location areas for minimizing the total cost and many partitioning problem is a NP-hard. In this paper, we use the simulated annealing with a new solution representation to solve NP-hard problem. In our method, we can automatically generate different number of location areas using compact index to obtain the optimal partitions. We compare the results obtained in our method with the existing results available in literature. We show that our methodology is able to perform better than previous methods.

Anonymous Editing Prevention Method for Depth-Image-Based Rendering Stereoscopic Video

Jiwon Lee; Hae-Yeoun Lee; Sanghyun Joo

Although many stereoscopic video watermarking techniques are being currently produced, these cannot be directly applied to stereoscopic video formatted in depth-image-based rendering (DIBR) due to the innate characteristics of DIBR. To rectify this situation, we first investigate technical issues in the design of watermarking schemes. We then propose a stereoscopic video watermarking method for DIBR formatted content to resolve the technical issues. The proposed method is robust against both 2D-3D conversion and frequently occurring distortions. Further, the imperceptibility is high enough to minimize visual fatigue, which is one of the most sensitive issues when it comes to stereoscopic video.
