Haar Wavelet Transform Image Compression Using Various Run Length Encoding Schemes

Rashmita Sahooinst; Sangita Roy; Sheli Sinha Chaudhuri

Image compression is a very important useful technique for efficient transmission as well as storage of images. The demand for communication of multimedia data through the telecommunication network and accessing the multimedia data through internet by utilizing less bandwidth for communication is growing explosively. Basically the image data comprise of significant portion of multimedia data and they occupy maximum portion of communication bandwidth for multimedia communication. Therefore the development of efficient image compression technique is quite necessary. The 2D Haar wavelet transform along with Hard Thresholding and Run Length Encoding is one of the efficient proposed image compression technique. JPEG2000 is a standard image compression method capable of producing very high quality compressed images. Conventional Run Length Encoding(CRLE),Optimized Run Length Encoding(ORLE),Enhanced Run Length Encoding(ERLE) are different types of RLES applied on both proposed method of compression and JPEG2000. Conventional Run Length Encoding produces efficient result for proposed method whereas Enhanced Run Length Encoding produces efficient result in JPEG2000 compression. This is the novel approach that the authors have proposed for compression of image using compression ratio (CR) without losing the PSNR, quality of image using lesser bandwidth.

Haar Wavelet Transform image compression using Run Length Encoding

Rashmita Sahoo; Sangita Roy; Sheli Sinha Chaudhuri

In modern technology memory storing space is not a very big deal. But when it comes to a portable system i.e. a digital camera with internet as well as communication facility, then the bandwidth for communication as well as storage are of serious concern. Huge useful information has to be stored and retrieved efficiently for practical purposes. The Haar wavelet, which is the simplest of all the 2D DWT, along with thresholding has been applied on a JPEG image. After that Run Length Entropy Coding has been adopted. This is the novel approach that authors have proposed for compression of image using parameter CR (Compression Ratio) without losing the parameter PSNR, the quality of image, using less bandwidth.

Optimization of Laplace of Gaussian (LoG) filter for enhanced edge detection: A new approach

Sourya Roy; Sheli Sinha Chaudhuri; Sangita Roy

In this paper a very remarkable approach on edge detection has been explored. The most important aspect of image segmentation is edge detection. Edge detection is a meaningful interpretation of discontinuities of similar intensity values in image analysis [1]. Laplace of Gaussian (LoG) filter is a conventional edge detecting tool. Threshold neighboring pixel value (T) and standard deviation parameters are optimized with the help of Cuckoo Search optimization in order to augment the edge detection potential of LoG. PFOM (Pratts Figure of Merit) is used as quality factor for edge detection analysis.

Study of parametric optimization of the Cuckoo Search algorithm

Sourya Roy; Sheli Sinha Chaudhuri; Sangita Roy

Cuckoo search (CS) is one of the latest and most efficient optimization techniques developed so far. Several attempts have been made in past in order to improve the efficiency of CS algorithm. In this paper we have tried to exploit several parameters of the CS algorithm in order to increase its efficiency. Cuckoo search is a metaheuristic optimization technique. Its parameters involve the Levy distribution factor beta (β) and the probability factor (P) with which solutions are replaced with new solutions. Hence for optimum values of the aforesaid parameters, efficiency of CS algorithm can be improved and can be used to solve optimization problems.

Benchmark Function Analysis of Cuckoo Search Algorithm

Joyita Basak; Sangita Roy; Sheli Sinha Chaudhuri

Cuckoo Search (CS), has been developed by Yang and Deb [1] is one of the newly added bio inspired algorithm which is mostly used to solve optimization problems. This is based on metaheuristic search algorithm. Cuckoo Search is named as its principle is based on reproduction strategy of Cuckoo bird. In this paper a comparative analysis is implemented on the algorithm with using five standard benchmark functions and experiment results can be used for better performances on optimization.

Dehazing technique based on dark channel prior model with sky masking and its quantitative analysis

Dibyasree Das; Sheli Sinha Chaudhuri; Sangita Roy

Outdoor image and video corrupt easily owing to fog, mist etc. Several techniques have been proposed to overcome these problems. But there is no optimum method as these scenarios are unpredictable and all situations are unique in their own way. Dark channel prior - a new prior-gives a significant prediction about the quantity of airlight that causes haze. Dark channel with contrast controller and sky masking improves the visibility with significantly reduced time. In this paper a innovative technique has been studied and its qualitative and quantitative analysis carried out.

A Novel Design Approach of Subband Coder and Decoder of Speech Signal Using Log Normal Probability Distribution

Sangita Roy; Sheli Sinha Chaudhuri

In modern speech communication less bandwidth and low data rate is very essential from portable systems with limited storage capacity. Researchers are concerned with the tradeoff between bandwidth and SNR (Signal-to-Noise), BER (Bit Error Rate). Speech signal can be compressed below 64 Kbps taking care of SNR above 30 dB, and BER below 10−5. Here the authors proposed Log Normal Distribution in the design of Subband Coder and Decoder of Speech Signal taking care of the SNR and BER criterion with data rate 9.3316 Kbps.

Studies and Implementation of Subband Coder and Decoder of Speech Signal Using Rayleigh Distribution

Sangita Roy; Dola Gupta; Sheli Sinha Chaudhuri; Pranab Banerjee

In the last 40 years a number of coding techniques for analog sources (speech and images) has been employed. Subband coding, a kind of transform coding, splits analog speech signal into a number of different smaller frequency bands. By subbanding data rate has been reduced to 12.13804 Kbps [Sangita et al. Studies and implementation of subband coder and decoder of speech signal, Proceedings of national conference on electronics, communication and signal processing, 8–16, 1] on 64 Kbps telephone line. In this paper a method has been proposed by which data rate has been reduced to 9.4875 Kbps using Rayleigh distribution where data rate can be reduced to 9.6 Kbps [Crochiere et al. Digital coding of speech in subbands, The BELL System Technical Journal, 2]. Proposed method can save data rate which in turn saves bandwidth as well as spectrum. Moreover this proposed method provides acceptable probability of error and quantization noise i.e. SNR.
