An approach towards expanding the scope of masked o-benzoquinone dimers to generate diverse compound libraries

In this report, a simple and rapid approach for the synthesis of masked o-benzoquinone (MOB) heterodimers is presented. Appropriately substituted 2-methoxyphenols were converted to MOB homodimers which were then transformed to MOB heterodimers utilizing either vinylic substitution (via addition-elimination) reaction protocol or organometallic reaction procedures.

A two step protocol for the synthesis of highly substituted benzobicyclo[2.2.2]octadienone derivatives from 2-methoxyphenols

Santhosh Kumar Chittimalla; Chennakesavulu Bandi; Sireesha Putturu

A rapid process for the synthesis of functionally rich benzobicyclo[2.2.2]octadienone derivatives has been realized through oxidative dimerization of commercially/readily available 2-methoxyphenols followed by an aromatization sequence.

Expedient Baylis–Hillman reaction protocol to functionalize cyclohexa-2,4-dienones

Santhosh Kumar Chittimalla; Manikandan Koodalingam; Chennakesavulu Bandi; Sireesha Putturu; Rajesh Kuppusamy

Several masked o-benzoquinone (MOB; 6,6-dimethoxy-cyclohexa-2,4-dienone derivatives) derivatives successfully took part in the Baylis–Hillman (BH) reaction with various aldehydes and ketones to furnish the corresponding condensation products. To our knowledge, cyclohexa-2,4-dienone systems in this study are utilized for the first time in the BH reaction.
