14xx-nm pump lasers with double fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) for Raman amplifiers show superior stable characteristics such as the lasing wavelength and power fluctuation in time domain comparing with 14xx-nm pump lasers with single FBG.

Recent progress of high power and high reliable 1480nm/14××-nm pump lasers as FOL14** series of FITEL is reported. Field reliability was estimated for over one million shipments and failure mode was analyzed by returned products.

We demonstrated the advantage of inner-grating-multi-mode (iGM) lasers for suppressing Stimulated-Brillouin-scattering (SBS) in comparison with normal single-mode DFB lasers. We found that iGM laser with over 18 longitudinal-modes successfully reduces SBS down to Rayleigh-scattering level.
