This paper aims at the design, control and implementation of single stage solar photovoltaic (PV) array fed induction motor drive for water pumping. The control strategy used for motor control, is a sensorless direct torque control with space vector modulation technique, which has the advantages of having simple control and reduced requirement of motor parameters. The sensorless technique curtails the cost of overall system and improves the performance of the drive. The speed is estimated by stationary fluxes in αβ domain, which are also subsequently used for reference torque estimation. The reference speed is estimated by the power component of PV array together with the controller output of DC bus voltage. The proposed system is simulated in MATLAB/ Simulink environment for wide range of insolation variation and the suitability of the system is verified by experimental results obtained on a developed prototype in the laboratory.

The main objective of this paper is to implement solar powered speed sensorless vector control of induction motor drive for water pumping. The technique being used for speed estimation is a model reference adaptive system (MRAS). The MRAS speed sensorless technique is also used for motor parameters adaptation viz. stator resistance (Rs) and rotor time constant (Tr). The main objectives served by this technique include improved robustness and reliability of overall system and insensitivity towards parameters variation. The induction motor driven water pump is powered by single stage solar photovoltaic (SPV). The appropriateness of proposed system is verified in MATLAB/ Simulink environment under various operating conditions.

This paper deals with a single stage solar powered speed sensorless vector controlled induction motor drive for water pumping system which is superior to conventional motor drive in terms of reliability and cost. The speed is estimated through estimated stator flux. The proposed system includes solar PV (photovoltaic) array, a three-phase voltage source inverter (VSI) and a motor-pump assembly. An incremental and conductance (I&C) MPPT (maximum power point tracking) algorithm is used to harness maximum power from SPV array. The smooth starting of the motor is attained by vector control of an induction motor. The desired configuration is designed and simulated in MATLAB/ Simulink platform and the design, modeling and control of the system are validated through demonstration of simulation results.

This paper deals with a two stage solar photovoltaic (SPV) fed speed sensorless vector controlled induction motor drive (IMD) for water pumping system which is superior to conventional controlled motor as it is cheaper and reliable. One common practice is to estimate the flux from the terminal voltages and currents. The performance of the drive depends on the accuracy of the flux estimator. Usually the efficiency of the induction motor drive (IMD) is high around the rated load and deteriorates at partial loading. However, the efficiency can be enhanced by operating the motor at optimum flux by controlling the flux component of current. In this paper, a minimization technique is proposed to minimize the total losses to operate the drive at maximum efficiency. A modified perturb and observe (P&O) algorithm is used to track maximum power from SPV array. The smooth starting of the motor is attained by vector control of an induction motor. The system performance is simulated in MATLAB/Simulink environment and the results are compared with the conventional vector controlled IMD.

This paper presents a solar PV array fed speed sensorless vector controlled induction motor drive for water pumping system. For the purpose of harnessing maximum possible power from solar PV array, a DC-DC converter is used. The soft starting of the motor is achieved to mitigate switching stress of the converter and then the maximum power is tracked using a well-known perturb and observe (P & O) control algorithm. With all due virtues associated with the induction motor in terms of the load characteristics, it is inferred that this motor is best suited to drive a water pump having nonlinear torque-speed characteristic and it is observed that the performance is even better than the DC motor. The desired configuration is designed and simulated in MATLAB/Simulink platform and the design and control of the system are validated through demonstration of simulation results.
