An Adaptive Contextual Recommender System: a Slow Intelligence Perspective

Francesco Colace; Luca Greco; Saverio Lemma; Marco Lombardi; Duncan Yung; Shi-Kuo Chang

This paper introduces an Adaptive Context Aware Recommender system based on the Slow Intelligence approach. The system is made available to the user as an adaptive mobile application, which allows a high degree of customization in recommending services and resources according to his/her current position and global profile. A case study applied to the town of Pittsburgh has been analyzed considering various users (with different profiles as visitors, students, professors) and an experimental campaign has been conducted obtaining interesting results.

Contextual Aware Computing and Tourism: A Case Study

Francesco Colace; Luca Greco; Saverio Lemma; Marco Lombardi; Flora Amato; Vincenzo Moscato; Antonio Picariello

This paper introduces an Adaptive Context Aware App for the tourism. This app is based on the Context Dimension Tree: a graphical formalism for the context representation through its main components. The system is made available to the user as an adaptive mobile application, which allows a high degree of customization in recommending services and resources according to his/her current position and global profile. A case study applied to Praiano, a town on the Amalfi Coast, has been analyzed considering various users (Italian tourists, foreign tourists ...) and an experimental campaign has been conducted obtaining interesting results.

A Context-Aware Framework for Cultural Heritage Applications

Francesco Colace; Massimo De Santo; Luca Greco; Saverio Lemma; Marco Lombardi; Vincenzo Moscato; Antonio Picariello

Cultural Heritage represents in Italy a resource of inestimable value. This value gains more and more importance when embedded into the digital ecosystem of a Smart City, where several aspects must be considered: logistics, economy, tourism, entertainment and so on. This work presents a project, developed within DATABENC (a High Technology District for Cultural Heritage Management recently funded by Regione Campania) that aims at designing and developing a system based on a Service Oriented Architecture providing a set of context-aware applications for assisting users (e.g. Tourists, citizens, etc.) in the exploration and management of Single Smart Spaces (e.g. Indoor museum, archaeological site, historical archive, etc.). In particular, we propose several techniques for designing context aware applications by tailoring useful data and services in a given environment. In particular, a Slow Intelligence System approach is adopted for the tailoring of the services and contents. A case study for a real single smart space and some preliminary experimental results are presented and discussed.

A Mobile Context-Aware Information System to Support Tourism Events

Fabio Clarizia; Saverio Lemma; Marco Lombardi; Francesco Pascale

The experience of a touristic visit is a learning process very fascinating and interesting: the emotions can change according to the interests of the individuals, as well as of the physical, personal and social-cultural context. Applications for a mobile environment should take advantage of contextual information, such as position, to offer greater services to the user.

An Ontological Digital Storytelling to Enrich Tourist Destinations and Attractions with a Mobile Tailored Story.

Fabio Clarizia; Saverio Lemma; Marco Lombardi; Francesco Pascale

Storytelling has evolved over the years: its ability to enchant, transform and persuade makes it a formidable mean, malleable and customizable, but not easy to use. The use of new technologies allowing it to reach a far greater level of effectiveness: the audience can join in the storytelling process, thus impacting positively on engagement and facilitating the development of long lasting relationships.

An Ontological Approach to Digital Storytelling

Mario Casillo; Francesco Colace; Massimo De Santo; Saverio Lemma; Marco Lombardi; Antonio Pietrosanto

In order to identify a personalized story, suitable for the needs of large masses of visitors and tourists, our work has been aimed at the definition of appropriate models and solutions of fruition that make the visit experience more appealing and immersive. This paper proposes the characteristic functionalities of narratology and of the techniques of storytelling for the dynamic creation of experiential stories on a sematic basis. Therefore, it represents a report about sceneries, implementation models and architectural and functional specifications of storytelling for the dynamic creation of functional contents for the visit. Our purpose is to indicate an approach for the realization of a dynamic storytelling engine that can allow the dynamic supply of narrative contents, not necessarily predetermined and pertinent to the needs and the dynamic behaviors of the users. In particular, we have chosen to employ an adaptive, social and mobile approach, using an ontological model in order to realize a dynamic digital storytelling system, able to collect and elaborate social information and contents about the users giving them a personalized story on the basis of the place they are visiting. A case of study and some experimental results are presented and discussed.

A context aware approach for promoting tourism events: The case of artist's lights in Salerno

Francesco Colace; Saverio Lemma; Marco Lombardi; Francesco Pascale

This paper introduces a Context Aware App for the tourism. This app is based on a graphical formalism for the context representation: the Context Dimension Tree. The aim is to propose a Context Aware approach that acts as dynamic support for the tourists, equipped of a mobile device which reacts to a change of context adapting user interface, according to his/her current position and global profile. For example, the system can guide the tourist in the discovery of a town proposing him/her events mainly interesting for the user. A case study applied to a Christmas event in Salerno, an Italian town, has been analyzed considering various users (Italian tourists, foreign tourists, etc.) and an experimental campaign has been conducted, obtaining interesting

A Tailor made System for providing Personalized Services

Mario Casillo; Francesco Colace; Saverio Lemma; Marco Lombardi; Francesco Pascale

Today, the existing technologies, such as smartphone and other pervasive devices, can be used for context awareness and help people to undertake conscious choices. In fact, unlike what happened in the past, all of these data are managed and contextualized for the particular application. We need to understand, select, treat and finally opportunely expose these data. In this scenario, there are many Context Aware applications. This paper introduces a tailor made system for providing personalized services and it is based on a graphical formalism for the context representation: the Context Dimension Tree. This system provides the needed information about places that are of great interest for the visitors, selecting them using user preferences. A case study is applied to an event in Salerno, an Italian town, called Artist’s Lights. Finally, an experimental campaign has been conducted, obtaining interesting results. BotWheels: a Petri Net based Chatbot for Recommending Tires.

Francesco Colace; Massimo De Santo; Francesco Pascale; Saverio Lemma; Marco Lombardi

Technological progress seems unstoppable: large companies are ready to implement more and more sophisticate solution to improve their productivity. The near future may be represented by so-called Chatbot, already present in the instant messaging platforms and destined to become more and more popular. This paper presents the realization of a prototype of a conversational workflow for a Chatbot in tires domain. The initial purpose has focused on the design of the specific model to manage communication and propose the most suitable tires for users. For this aim, it has been used the Petri Net. Finally, after the implementation of the designed model, experimental campaign was conducted in order to demonstrate its enforceability and
