These days Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cells (PEFCs) are the focus of the world because of their high efficiency in energy generation. However, further improvements in electrodes are required for the implementation of PEFCs in stationary power plants and in vehicles. In order to increase PEFC performance, it is essential to understand the various voltage loss contributions, such as kinetic losses (catalytic activation losses), ohmic losses (resistances), and transport losses (H+ potential gradients in the electrode and gas diffusion overpotentials).
