Abstract A preliminary chemical analysis of human nightsoil has revealed one fraction, insoluble in ether and ethanol but soluble in acetone and water, which has proved to have a definite inhibitory effect upon the development of Ascaris eggs. Further analyses of this fraction are under way.

1. 1. Human nightsoil treated with viscera of raw fish, superphosphate of lime, and E. coli cultured in Gales casein-glucose-broth showed marked ovicidal properties against Ascaris lumbricoides eggs. 2. 2. An acetone insoluble fraction from the acidulous fecal mixture, consisting chiefly of fecal bacteria, was the only ovistatic agent isolated, and it was not sufficiently ovicidal when used alone or in combination with any of the acetone soluble fractions.
