Weismann-Netter-Stuhl syndrome in two siblings

Cases of Weismann-Netter-Stuhl syndrome involving the upper extremities and affecting siblings have rarely been reported. We present the radiological findings of Weismann-Netter-Stuhl syndrome in two siblings, with upper extremity involvement in one of them.

Evaluation of right ventricular function in patients with tetralogy of Fallot using the myocardial performance index and isovolumic acceleration: a comparison with cardiac magnetic resonance imaging.

BACKGROUND Assessment of right ventricular function is a key point in the follow-up of operated patients with tetralogy of Fallot. Cardiac magnetic resonance assessment of right ventricular function is considered the gold standard. However, this technique is expensive, has limited availability, and requires significant expertise to acquire and interpret the images. Myocardial performance index and isovolumic acceleration have recently been studied for the assessment of right ventricular function and are shown to be simple yet powerful tools for assessing patients with right ventricular dysfunction of various origins. METHODS In this study, the integrity of myocardial performance index and isovolumic acceleration obtained by tissue Doppler imaging echocardiography to quantify right ventricular function was assessed in 31 patients operated for tetralogy of Fallot. Myocardial performance index and isovolumic acceleration measurements were compared with the parameters derived by cardiac magnetic resonance imaging. RESULTS In this study, a significant correlation has not been detected between cardiac magnetic resonance-originated right ventricular ejection fraction, pulmonary regurgitation fraction and myocardial performance index, isovolumic acceleration obtained by tissue Doppler imaging echocardiography from the lateral tricuspid annulus of the right ventricle. CONCLUSION We have concluded that when evaluated separately, myocardial performance index and isovolumic acceleration obtained from tissue Doppler imaging echocardiography can be used in the long-term follow-up of patients who have been operated for tetralogy of Fallot, but that they do not show correlation with cardiac magnetic resonance-originated right ventricle ejection fraction and pulmonary regurgitation fraction.

Prenatal diagnosis of left coronary artery to right ventricle fistula

Prenatal diagnosis of a congenital coronary artery fistula between the left coronary artery and the right ventricle was established at 28 weeks of gestation. Hydrops fetalis developed during follow‐up and the baby died on the first day after delivery. It is rare for coronary artery fistulas to become symptomatic during fetal life.

Absent ductus venosus in the fetus.

pH 7.26 and base excess – 8.5 mEq/l; WBC 13,800; haemoglobin 14.8 g/dl; platelets 14.2 10 4 / μ l; CRP 2.98 mg/dl. Small abscesses were observed in the placenta. Administration of fl omoxef (2 g/day for the mother) and panipenem/betamipron (60 mg/kg per day for the neonate) were continued. Two days later, Listeria monocytogenes was cultured from the maternal blood, chorionic membrane, the placenta and fetal gastric juice, leading to the diagnosis of maternal – fetal listeriosis. Flomoxef or panipenem/betamipron was changed to aminobenzyl penicillin, 12 g/day for the mother and 200 mg/kg per day for the infant. Th e infant was under a respirator for 26 days due to respiratory distress syndrome and is now under the care of pediatricians, without major sequelae. Th e mother recovered well. Th e transmission route of the Listeria was not identifi ed.

Cooccurrence of Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome with Two Different Clinical Entities

Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) is an abnormal heart rate response to a positional change. Several potential mechanisms for pathophysiology of POTS are defined. This syndrome can coexist with different clinical situations. In our report, the first case was a 13-year-old female who has been followed up for diagnosis of homocystinuria. She was admitted to our outpatient clinic with complaints of dizziness after suddenly moving from supine to upright position and chest pain after exercise. Tilt table test was performed to evaluate dizziness. According to the tilt table test the patient was diagnosed with POTS. The second case was a 17-year-old female who had been evaluated in different centers with the complaints of fainting, bruising, redness, and swelling on the hands and feet after moving from supine position to upright position during the last 4 years. Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome was diagnosed by tilt table test and ivabradine was started. Herein, we aimed to point out the cooccurrence of different clinical entities and POTS.

Subclinical cardiovascular abnormalities in patients with juvenile systemic lupus erythematosus

Background and aim Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) have accelerated atherosclerosis and increased risk of cardiovascular disease. It is thought that the atherosclerosis process begins in the first decades of life and progresses silently. The aim of this study is to evaluate subclinical cardiovascular abnormalities including atherosclerosis and left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) in children and adolescent with SLE.
