Cerebral thrombosis in inflammatory bowel disease: A report of four cases

The risk of thromboembolism is increased in inflammatory bowel disease and its symptoms may be overlooked. The commonest are deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary emboli. Cerebral thrombosis, in a particular stroke, is rare. Furthermore, its treatment can be complex. We present the cases of 4 patients with cerebral vascular involvement.

Infiximab for treatment of systemic amyloidosis associated with Crohn's disease.

Dear Sir, Systemic AA amyloidosis is a rare but serious complication of Crohns Disease (CD) associated with 0.9–3% cases1–3.To date, there has been no effective treatment for secondary amyloidosis; treatment has consisted in treating the underlying inflammatory disease. Various therapeutic attempts such as azathioprine, colchicine, dimethylsulfoxide, and elemental diets have been tried and suggested to delay the progression of renal amyloidosis but their efficacy has not been fully elucidated. In recent years, it has been reported that the use of more powerful anti-inflammatory drugs such as biological agents may improve the clinical course of AA-amyloidosis in rheumatic4 and inflammatory bowel disease patients.3 Here we report the case of a patient with systemic amyloidosis associated with CD and s pondyloarthropathy treated with Infliximab.
