The design and implementation of real-time environment monitoring systems based on wireless sensor networks

Kyung-Hoon Jung; Seokcheol Lee; Hyun-Suk Hwang; Chang-Soo Kim

This research focuses on the implementation of a real-time environment monitoring system for environment detection using wireless sensor networks. The purpose of our research is to construct the system on the real-time environment with the technology of environment monitoring systems and ubiquitous computing systems. Also, we present the monitoring system to provide a faster solution to prevent disasters through automatic machine controls in urgent situations. As the purpose of this study, we constructed simulation nodes with wireless sensor network devices and implemented a real-time monitoring system.

A Study on the Circular Sensing Model with a Low Power Profile in Wireless Sensor Networks

Seokcheol Lee; Sambum Shin; Hyun-Suk Hwang; Chang-Soo Kim

Existing wireless sensor network devices based on micro-controller devices such as MICA have a serious limitation of power consumption because of dependent on AA or AAA batteries in executing nodes. However the nodes can keep their lifetime during one or more months, replacement of batteries and difficult maintenance of sensors are often needed. Therefore, it is essential for sensors to have a low power profile. In this paper, we present a method to find duration of sensing, detection of events, and circulation of sensing. Also, we implement a prototype of proposed model and simulate it about power consumption through a circular sensing method. Our main idea is to reduce power consumption for driving sensors through a circular sensing algorithm on wireless communication. We attained a result that our model can decrease power consumption up to almost 3 times. The effect is occurred from avoiding redundant transmission and decreasing the power for driving sensors.

Development of Gas Leak Detection Monitoring and Data Management Mechanism for Hydrogen Safety

Seokcheol Lee; Hoon-Sik Jang; Seung-Hoon Nahm; Chang-Soo Kim

This paper describes a real-time monitoring system for hydrogen safety. Hydrogen energy is a clean and unlimited resource that replaces fossil fuels. However, hydrogen can explode in the density range of 4% to 75% by an ignition source. Therefore, safety devices or safety systems are necessary in the use of hydrogen energy. We aimed to develop a real-time detection module and a real-time monitoring and automation system to prevent gas leak accidents so that hydrogen hydrogen energy can be used safely We have developed a three-part module: Gas Leak Detection, Real-time Monitoring, and Automation Module. The development system consists of a high-performance sensor that is based on multi-walled carbon nanotubes, a sensor controller with a wireless.

A STUDY ON REMOTE MONITORING AND SECURITY OF CONTROL SYSTEM USING IPSEC

Ho Jun Na; Wan Kyu Lee; Seung Hoon Nahm; Dae-Hyun Ryu; Sang-Hocuk Lee; Seokcheol Lee

This paper is focused on the development of remote-observation control system supporting the excellent security functions. This control system uses VPN (Virtual Private Network) supported by IPSec and public network like Internet. The developed XBOX system is operated by embedded system which installed Linux operating system and performs the functions of TCP/IP Protocol processing, security-communication, and etc. Our developed XBOX system can be applied to various applications including an attended device of remote crime prevention. This paper shows the example of transmission the image of the cracking and transmitting the data using our developed system.
