A Study on the Comparison of the PV Module Generation from Daylight Irradiation and Indoor Lighting Savings with Lighting Simulation

Yoon-Min Park; Seong-Kwan Hong; An-Seop Choi

Recently, BIPV system which is good enough for maintenance and functions with the shading system is being used. However BIPV system with the shading system is different from existing PV module because of using flexible PV module. Prior to the application of the BIPV system, the clearness index was calculated by Erbs et al.(1982) and analyzed for the amount of electric power generation of sky irradiance with measured data. To predict electric lighting energy savings in daylit space, electric lighting power savings with amount of PV module electric power generation was compared by using Relux 2010 software in this study.

An Analysis of the Current Status on the Interior Lighting Design of Dining Tables in Apartment

Keun-Young Jeong; Seong-Kwan Hong; An-Seop Choi

Light is a critical element for people to live and do creative activities in residential buildings. Especially, light in the dim)ing room is the most important factor for psychological and emotional effects but people are living under the poor light environment. Most people even are not well aware of good lighting environment. Also, the domestic lighting designers just follow the Korean Standards illuminance but it isn`t appropriated for our cultural and social sides. This study investigated illuminance and color temperature of dining tables, and also analyzed the results of those in actual residential buildings.

It is prevalent to research on the energy saving systems using daylight. Daylight responsive dimming systems are to automatically control lighting output by available daylight for maintaining target illuminance on the workplane. The system application is not popular because of blocked daylight by shading systems. Automated roller shading systems automatically control shade height by sun position and sky conditions. Both daylight responsive dimming systems and automated roller shading systems should be integrated for energy savings and visual luminous environment. In this research, software are developed and integrated for control of integrated systems.

Melatonin Suppression under LED Lighting Focused on Spectral Power Distribution Differences

Seong-Kwan Hong; Kyoung-Sil Kim; In-Tae Kim; An-Seop Choi

Changes in melatonin concentration levels by differences in CCT of white LED light focused on Spectral Power Distribution (SPD) differences compared to the same CCT of conventional fluorescent light were analyzed. For this, melatonin concentration levels in saliva samples were taken over four different experiments at seven-day intervals. In 71.4% of participants, it was confirmed that melatonin concentration is suppressed by exposure to light, and a slight difference was observed by different CCTs. In addition, Experiment II with a high CCT was relatively high in terms of the melatonin suppression rate compared to Experiment III. A key finding was the possibility that different SPDs under a particular CCT of white LED light compared to the same CCT of conventional fluorescent light could have the same effect on the melatonin suppression.

Analysis on the Measured Electric Power Consumption of Dimmable LED Lamps for a Specific Illuminance and Color Temperature

In-Hyun Jang; Seong-Kwan Hong; An-Seop Choi

The purpose of this study is to find an efficient way using dimmable LED lamps to describe specific target illuminance and color temperature. This study used 14 dimmable LED lamps as same or different color temperature. The method of study is to measure of electric power consumption using different color temperature of dimmable LED lamps that were combination of two or three dimmable LED lamps by simultaneously dimming. Through this method, the electric power consumption was compared with all combinations of the illuminance and color temperature.

A Preliminary Study on the Lighting Design of Hospitals for LED Lighting Application

Min-Jeong You; Seong-Kwan Hong; An-Seop Choi

Recently medical facilities that can help to heal the interpretation have evolved as a healing space. Accordingly, the patient`s emotional, psychological and social ward plan to meet the needs of the patient to recover is important. The medical team is also related to the nature of human life, so they are experiencing high stress levels compared to other professionals. However, most places don`t consider the user`s psychological behavior. The purpose of this study is to build user-friendly lighting environment using LED lighting. LED lighting is easy to adjust illuminance and color temperature, and it is can be implemented in the medical area.

An Economic Analysis and Consideration on the Application of Photovoltaic System for Bridge Nightscape Energy Savings at Han River in Seoul

Yoon-Min Park; Seong-Kwan Hong; An-Seop Choi

PV(Photovoltaic) system is environmentally friendly power system using solar energy in renewable energy. PV system compared to other renewable energy power generation systems is relatively easy to install, so the dissemination is increasing worldwide. Especially, BIPV(Building Integrated Photovoltaic) is a system that PV modules are installed on the building and use renewable energy. But this system is difficult to apply due to the shadow of adjacent buildings and limited installation. In this study, payback period is calculated by Retscreen 2010, that is an economic assessment software of renewable energy, on applied to the bridge of PV system. As results, this study aims at actively considering the application.

Analysis of Daylight Distributions and Solar Radiation to Verify the Applicability of Blind PV Systems Using Simulation

Seong-Kwan Hong; An-Seop Choi

Daylight provides residents with good visual environment. And available daylight in inside provides positive influence on psychological and physiological aspects. Also, sunlight can be converted directly into electricity using PV(photovoltaic) power generation. This study was to analyze characteristics of daylight distributions, calculate an amount of solar radiation and a PV power generation on the building facade using Radiance and Ecotect simulation programs. Ultimately, the purpose of this study is to verify the applicability of Blind PV systems.

A Study on the Improvement of Classifying Method of the Sky Conditions for Application of the Daylight at Indoor - The Comparison with Cloud Amount and Measured Solar Horizontal Irradiation in Seoul -

Yu-Sin Kim; Hyun-Sun Kim; Seong-Kwan Hong; Byoung-Chul Park; An-Seop Choi

Sky cover method can be used to determine sky condition by cloud amount of the Korea Meteorological Administration. And, HCI (Hourly Clearness Index) method is another method determined by measured horizontal global radiation data. The results of the HCI methods of Erbs et al. (1982), Orgill and Hollands (1977) seem to be not good enough because of the air pollution such as smog phenomenon or yellow sand phenomenon and so on. Therefore, HCI should be corrected. The aim of this study is to improve HCI. Therefore, this study is to analyze and compare on the sky conditions from Sky cover method and HCI, and then presents hourly correction factor based on Sky 채팩 method. The results of corrected HCI improved.
