Monte Carlo Simulation for Planning and Decisions Making in Transmission Project of Electricity

This research aims to propose guidelines for decisions in the planning stage in electric transmission project. The focus is on capital and labor intensive projects, extremely complex. This research is exploratory and seeks to qualify and quantify a planning electric power transmission project. This planning aims to good preparation, structuring, and assessment to support decision on the organizations strategy for the enterprise contract. The goal is to compose a model to be studied based on the planning and risks review, generating scenarios derived from Monte Carlo simulations to guide decision making and also provide the probabilistic reference to the sequence of the project implementation and its inherent uncertainties. The data were modeled and simulated from a real case of an energy transmission auctioned in 2012. The simulation presented probabilistic outcomes for scenarios based on estimates, scope understanding and measured risks as the maturity of the available information and perceived uncertainties.

Applying an ethical decision-making model: the case of Avco Environmental

This paper discusses the principles of ethical decision–making at enterprises, as a tool for corporate social responsibility. In particular, it focuses on the particularities inherent to ethical guidelines in an organisation. A case study from an environment company provides the basis for an analysis, in the context of which the role played by ethical issues, as well as some steps to ensure they are implemented, are considered.

Qualidade nos serviços: atuação do intra-empreendedor na gestão do conhecimento. Estudo de caso em escritório de patentes

Este artigo trata de um estudo de caso em que se procura evidenciar a importância do intra-empreendedorismo para articular a gestao do conhecimento na consecucao da qualidade nos servicos. Os referenciais de analise sao os conceitos de gestao do conhecimento e de intra-empreendedorismo e observam as praticas de treinamento realizadas em uma organizacao de prestacao de servicos de advocacia, especializada em Direito sobre a Propriedade Industrial. No caso estudado, o lider de setor (intra-empreendedor) utiliza as estrategias da gestao do conhecimento como ferramenta para a garantia da qualidade de seus servicos. A organizacao e funcionarios foram beneficiados pelas iniciativas, mas varios obstaculos impediram a sua continuidade. O presente trabalho discorre sobre as caracteristicas do intra-empreendedor e a experiencia da gestao sobre o conhecimento adquirido neste caso, assim como registra as consequencias e oportunidades para mudancas.

Adherence of social responsibility management in Brazilian organizations

Purpose This paper aims to analyze the adherence of social responsibility management (SRM) in Brazilian organizations and to identify the driving and the resistance forces to implement it. Design/methodology/approach This article presents a deep literature review on SRM, corporate social responsibility (CSR) and stakeholder management, which aims to support a survey research to define, according to experts, the market perception of adherence of SRM. Findings The paper presents evidence that there is adherence on the part of the practices of organizations that adhere to the theoretical foundations of SRM in Brazil. It was found that organizations should seek to improve nine areas to implement SRM and organizations can use each of these areas strategically or all together. Competences for environmental performance in a Brazilian oil company

The objective of this research is to identify organisational competences that impact the environmental performance of organisations. The case analysed is the oil refining in Brazil. A case study is adopted as a research strategy, with a qualitative and a quantitative approach, using bibliographical and field research, including the use of a questionnaire followed by a descriptive statistics analysis. The sample, defined in a non-random convenience is composed of 18 experts with experience in environmental management in the refining area. It was identified 29 competences as important for environmental performance. It is concluded that these competences are broadly distributed in different areas of the company, not being limited to the environmental management division. Most competences are in the tactical level (51.7%). With the exception of management competences related to the implementation of policies, licensing and environmental standards, the ten most important competences are related to operations and manufacturing technologies.
