Development of Androids based system for manufacturing operation

Mohd Azmi Hussin; Shahrani Shahbudin; Nooritawati Md Tahir

Nowadays, the manufacturing industry is facing several challenges to retain their competitiveness, particularly in producing a high quality products at a lower cost of operation. Engineering division as a part of the most important team in manufacturing is responsible for ensuring the production operation not be interrupted by any technical issues which can affects the companys profit margin or may results in losses. Thus, the idea to develop a mobile application that enhances efficiency and productivity to be used by Engineering team, brought to the development of Sony EMCS JF Engineering Mobile System. The application was developed in an Android platform with Android Studio. It was based on a client-server architecture. The application was integrated with JF web portal and using Parse.com as its backend for cloud database. It has many functionalities which related to JF Engineerings core activities such as Offline Defect Control, Start-Up Check Data, Touch-Up Data and Pallet Management. This mobile application also offers menu which enables users to send and view reports, email, calling, messaging, view profiles, and many others. It was developed to help reducing the response time and improve the approach of information sharing for production issues.

Teaching the Intel 8051 Microcontroller with hands-on hardware experiments

Mohd Uzir Kamaluddin; Shahrani Shahbudin; Naimah Mat Isa; Husna Zainol Abidin

The Centre in Computer Engineering Studies at Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) has developed and built the Intel 8051 Trainer and Application Board that is used by the students at the faculty as a learning tool. This microcontroller is taught in the Microprocessor System course and is available in the Software Application Laboratory. This paper presents the major components of the laboratory exercises and describes each component used as hands-on experiments for teaching 8051 Intel Microcontroller System. Sample of students output of hands-on experiment is also illustrated.

The Impact of Synchronous Distributed Generation (DG) on Distribution System

Hasmaini Mohamad; Shahrani Shahbudin; Nofri Yenita Dahlan

Interconnection of Distributed Generation (DG) in distribution system presents many potential benefits as well as drawbacks. The impacts of DG might vary with the types of generator. This paper presents a study on the impacts of synchronous DGs interconnection in distribution system. Steady state analysis is carried out to analyze the impact of DG on voltage profile and short circuit current considering before and after DG interconnection. Dynamic analysis is also performed for investigating the performance of DG when a part of distribution system is being islanded. Results show that the penetration of DG contributes to the changes of power flow in the system, hence give impacts to the overall system performance.

Investigation on the effectiveness of classifying the voltage sag using support vector machine

Hanim Ismail; Noraliza Hamzah; Zuhaina Zakaria; Shahrani Shahbudin

Voltage sags are currently one of the vital issues in power quality today. Voltage sag is a short duration reductions in RMS voltage caused by fault, induction motor starting and transformer energizing. Aim of this paper is to classify the caused of sag either by fault or induction motor starting using SVM. In this paper, the voltage sag was analyzed using PSCAD model. Then, a method to identify voltage sag using mother wavelet Daubechies 4 and support vector machines are used. The waves were discomposed into 10 levels using wavelet transform, afterwards, the selected energy features that were extracted from different levels, were employed as the inputs of the Support Vector Machines to classify the voltage sag.
