A safe mobile agent system for distributed intrusion detection

Shao-Chun Zhong; Qing-Feng Song; Xiao-Chun Cheng; Yan Zhang

Some applications of the technology of mobile agent (MA) in intrusion detection system (IDS) have been developed. MA technology can bring IDS flexibility and enhanced distributed detection ability. However, the security of mobile agents and methods of collaboration among mobile agents are important problems cared by many researchers. For that, we designed a security mobile agent system for distributed intrusion detection and implemented a prototype. In this paper, we firstly analyze the shortcomings of current IDSs and discuss the state of the art for applying MA technology in IDS. Then we present our MA-IDS architecture and detail methods of local intrusion detection and distributed intrusion detection. The structure and security architecture of MAs are expatriated emphatically in Section 3. Finally we demonstrate the advantages of our MA-IDS architecture and our future research contents.

A SOA Based Approach to User-Oriented System Migration

Zhuo Zhang; Hongji Yang; Dong-Dai Zhou; Shao-Chun Zhong

SOA migration is a complicated task. To ensure the migration performance, some directions on modeling migration approaches are needed. A user-oriented SOA migration model is proposed in this paper. The model is defined as a 6-tuple. The detailed descriptions on each tuple are addressed. Especially, the concrete algorithm on matching scheme and final SOA migration scheme are provided. The model can benefit the planning and deployment of a SOA migration project. A case study on the migration schemes of an internal management system for primary and secondary schools is provided to further depict this model. Through analyzing the results, we conclude that the performance of this model is promising.

A Decision Assistant Based on Evidential Reasoning

Qingxiang Wu; David Bell; Jiwen Guan; Rh. Khokhar; Xi Huang; Shao-Chun Zhong

The evidence theory provides an important reasoning mechanism in artificial intelligence, and it has been applied to complex systems to handle uncertainty reasoning. Using a set of easy-to-use interfaces, we have designed a desktop decision assistant system based on the evidence theory. Through the easy-to-use interfaces, expert knowledge and opinions or political arguments can be input to the system easily. An incremental evidence combination algorithm is embedded in a reasoning module in the system. Based on the evidential reasoning module, the system can carry out uncertainty reasoning efficiently. Therefore, the system can be applied to enhance human capability to make decisions in daily life, business, or political arguments. As the easy-to-use interfaces are designed, the decision assistant can make decisions in different situations with only a few keyboard clicks. A couple of examples of applications are also demonstrated in this paper

The study of service oriented architecture of E-learning resources and personalized service model

Dong-Dai Zhou; Zhuo Zhang; Shao-Chun Zhong; Yi Yao; Hong-Mei Zhang

This paper puts forward the concept of service oriented architecture of learning resources, divides learning resources into three levels that include basic layer, special layer and application layer, and builds service oriented architecture of E-learning resources with a directed graph structure data model to realize the resources dynamic organization for different objects or aims of services. Then on this condition, this paper also presents an E-learning resources personalized service model to improve the performance and flexibility of E-learning resources sharing through the Internet.

A novel discretizer for knowledge discovery based on multiknowledge approaches

Qingxiang Wu; Girijesh Prasad; Tm McGinnity; David A. Bell; Shao-Chun Zhong; Jiwen Guan

As many knowledge discovery approaches are good at dealing with discrete values, discretization of continuous attributes is required when the approaches are applied to an instance information system with continuous attributes. In this paper, a novel adaptive discretizer based on a dichotomic entropy and a statistical distribution index is proposed to preprocess the continuous attributes in the instance information system, and then multi-knowledge approach is applied to make decisions. The experimental results on benchmark data sets show that the adaptive discretizer can improve the decision accuracy. The decision accuracies for combination of this discretizer and multi-knowledge approach is better than other approaches.

An Ontology-Based Service Composition Approach for Integrating E-Learning Tools

Pan Xie; Dong-Dai Zhou; Shao-Chun Zhong; Zhuo Zhang

Although Web services technology provides feasibility to integrate different e-learning tools into an e-learning platform, there is not an effective and efficient way to composite different services together. This paper presents an ontology-based service composition approach, which includes an e-learning oriented web service composition model based on ontology, and service composition method that considers both the functional and non-functional requirements of the service, for integrating e-learning software tools. We also compare our method with the other methods by a service composition experiment. The experiment result proves that this approach has much higher performance and efficiency.
