Background/Aim: Duodenal injury is an uncommon finding, accounting for about about 3 – 5% of abdominal trauma, mainly resulting from both penetrating and blunt trauma, and is associated with significant mortality (6 - 25%) and morbidity (30 - 60%). Patients and Methods: Retrospective analysis was performed in terms of presentation, management, morbidity and mortality on 14 patients of duodenal injuries out of a total of 172 patients of abdominal trauma attending Subharti Medical College. Results: Epigastric pain (100%) along with vomiting (100%) is the usual presentation of duodenal injuries in blunt abdominal trauma, especially to the upper abdomen. Computed tomography (CT) was diagnostic in all cases. Isolated duodenal injury is a rare finding and the second part is mostly affected. Conclusion: Duodenal injury should always be suspected in blunt upper abdominal trauma, especially in those presenting with epigastric pain and vomiting. Investigation by CT and early surgical intervention in these patients are valuable tools to reduce the morbidity and mortality.

Ventricular shunts are commonly employed in the management of hydrocephalus, and numerous complications such as dissection or migration have been reported in the literature besides shunt malfunction. We present a case of the migration of the peritoneal catheter into the scrotum who attended at our institute. He was managed successfully, but subsequently developed intraabdominal cystic swelling for which he was reoperated.

Malignant CD 117 negative colonic GIST – A case report

Sanjay Pandey; Tarun Agarwal; Veenu Jain; Shashank Mishra

Gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GIST) are defined as KIT (CD117, stem cell factor receptor) positive mesenchymal spindle cell neoplasms accounting for 3% of all gastrointestinal neoplasms. Out of them, only 5% are found in the colon. The diagnosis of the GIST is made on histopathological features. The definitive diagnosis of a GIST has become more precise in the recent years with the

A Clinicopathological & Radiological Evaluation Of Scrotal Swellings

Anchal Chauhan; Shashank Mishra; Ghulam Jeelani

Scrotal swellings were earlier considered to be an area over unaided clinical expertise. Scrotal swelling can occur in males at any age. Scrotal masses may be intratesticular or extratesticular, either solid or cystic.A prospective study was done on 50 patients presenting to our hospital over 1 years with complaint of scrotal swelling. Factors such as age, presenting complaint, laterality were analysed, a definite diagnosis was made on the basis of USG, Colour Doppler and Histology. Collected data was then analysed and compared to previous studies.

Foreign Body in Appendix Presenting As Acute AppendicitisA Case Report

Anchal Chauhan; Shashank Mishra; Yash Pal Monga; Sumit Dutt Sharma; Aditya Rastogi

Foreign bodies are rare causes of appendicitis and, in most cases, ingested foreign bodies pass through the alimentary tract asymptomatically. However, ingested foreign bodies may sometimes remain silent within the appendix for many years without an inflammatory response. Despite the fact that cases of foreignbody induced appendicitis have been documented, sharp and pointed objects are more likely to cause perforations and abscesses, and present more rapidly after ingestion. Blunt foreign bodies are more likely to remain dormant for longer periods and cause appendicitis through obstruction of the appendiceal lumen.

Laparoscopic management of cholecystocolic fistula: case report and review literature -

Vibhu Garg; Shashank Mishra; Garima Jain; Akshay Baid; Ruchi Tyagi; Ramesh C Awasthi; Dhanesh Kumar

Cholecystocolic fistula is a rare complication of gallbladder disease. Its clinical presentation is variable and nonspecific, and the diagnosis is made, mostly, incidentally during intraoperative maneuver. Cholecystectomy with closure of the fistula is considered the treatment of choice for the condition. With an increasingly reproducible tendency to the use of laparoscopy, laparoscopy for resolution of cholecystocolic fistula is not only feasible, but also offers a shorter stay at hospital and a milder postoperative period when compared to laparotomy. Here we present a case report of cholecystocolic fistula repaired with laparoscopy.

Thoracic psammomatous spinal meningioma with osseous metaplasia: A very rare case report

Akhil Prakash; Shashank Mishra; Ruchi Tyagi; Prakash C Attri; Amit Bhatnagar; Sandeep Kansal

Thoracic spinal psammomatous meningioma is a rare subtype of meningioma. Among diverse types of mesenchymal differentiation, osseous metaplasia is found to be still rarer. We are presenting a new case of thoracic psammomatous spinal meningioma with osseous metaplasia in a middle aged female which that gives a sense of cancellous bone in the spinal canal. To conclude, meningiomas with osseous metaplasia are very rare tumors that complicate the surgical removal in certain cases. Ossification, if predicted prior to operation with computed tomography reconstruction, makes planning of removal easier. In our case, maintained cerebrospinal fluid spaces despite hard consistency of tumor made its removal easier once cerebrospinal fluid was drained. We have submitted this article because it is very rare and curable pathology and preoperative diagnosis helps in prevention of neurological injury during its excision.
