Tools & methods for software effort estimation using use case points model — A review

Meenakshi Saroha; Shashank Sahu

Software effort estimation is primary requisite in software development life cycle. Most of the software projects failed due to inaccurate effort estimation. So, to overcome this shortcoming many techniques were introduced in past by various researchers. There are many techniques exists for estimating the software project effort such as learning oriented, model based and expert based techniques. This paper represents review on various techniques used for effort estimation but main focus is on the tools and frameworks developed for efforts estimation which based on Use Case Point (UCP) model. These tools come up with extra features such as consider more factors that may affect project delivery and ability to give better estimate than existing one.

Comparison of clustering techniques for measuring similarity in articles

Usha Rani; Shashank Sahu

Clustering groups the objects into clusters having similarity with each other. This paper focuses on the two techniques of clustering i.e. hierarchical clustering and k-means clustering. The research is to compare various similarities measuring methods and finding out the best one. Research work is started by selecting different categories of textual contents or articles. For each selected category, articles have been selected from various news channels. Search words are identified which are most relevant for a respective category. Now these words are used as input for processing in the program to create a matrix of words. This matrix is then processed in Matlab using different measuring methods. The final outcome is demonstrated by the Cophenatic correlation coefficient & Silhouette Value to find out the best method of similarity measure. In this paper, five categories have been selected for the analysis which are “Business”, “Education”, “Election”, “Entertainment” and “Game” and 28 news articles have been filtered out for each category from various news channels. Different numbers of words are selected like 35, 49, 25, 30 and 35 against the mentioned categories for the implementation of the proposed technique. The research work finally concludes that for hierarchical clustering — ‘Cityblock’ and for k-means clustering — ‘Correlation’ is the best method however cityblock is at second position in the k-means clustering.

A novel OLDA evolving agent architecture

Shashank Sahu; Rashi Agarwal; Rajesh Kumar Tyagi

Abstract The objective of the paper is to define an architecture which can be used in designing of evolving agents. Proposed architecture consists of four modules and four repositories that enable evolving nature in the agent. The architecture can be used to design an agent that works on behalf of a user. The architecture has been experimented in MATLAB using regression tree learning method. Experiments have been performed on a sample of 1000 purchasing patterns. Two experiments have been carried out that show that an increment of 19.94% average success can be achieved by implementing evolving capability in the agent and 14.5 average evolution cycles are needed to achieve 100% success for the agent. Agent developed using proposed architecture is able to change itself without the involvement of human being and it supports agent-oriented software development.

Review of Clustering Techniques for Finding the Similarity in Articles

Usha Rani; Shashank Sahu

Clustering is an important technique in data mining. It is a technique in which grouping of item taken place into the clusters in such a way that items of same cluster have more similarity than the items into another cluster, but is very dissimilar to the item in other clusters. The aim of document clustering is to make a set of clusters of given documents in such a way that document of each cluster have more similarity than the documents of other clusters. This paper reviews various techniques of clustering which can be divided mainly into two groups that are hierarchical and partitional clustering.

Software effort estimation using enhanced use case point model

Meenakshi Saroha; Shashank Sahu

Software effort estimation is crucial task in software development life cycle. There are many model exists for estimating the software project effort like regression model, expert judgment, algorithmic and non-algorithmic. But, still software industries are lacking to have more accurate effort estimation method due to which they will lead to failure. In this work, an enhanced Use Case Point model (Algorithmic model) is introduced to overcome this problem which is based on the existing Use Case Point (UCP) model. A case study is also performed for comparative analysis by taking five software projects into consideration and different evaluation criteria like MMRE, MMER, MSE, RMSE and PRED(x) are used to estimate the accuracy of the proposed model.

Review on "Really Simple Syndication (RSS) Technology Tools"

Geetanjali Singh; Shashank Sahu

A user always requires up-to date content from online sources. The content is not always satisfactory for the user as it does not provide the specific information required by user. It is tedious task for common user to get the desirable information from vast Internet. To overcome this type of problem, the user needed RSS technology for ease of access. RSS gives the updated online information to the user. This paper represents review study of Really Simple Syndication (RSS) technology. Here we discuss about many Tools and useful areas where RSS is used and also define many issues due to improper RSS feed. For this research work article from last one decade (2003-2013) has been selected.
