An analog front-end circuit for 13.56MHz RFID interrogators compatible with ISO 14443, ISO 15693 and ISO18000-3 Mode 1 RFID interrogators was designed and fabricated by using 0.35/spl mu/m double poly CMOS process. The fabricated chip was operated at 3.3 volt single supply. The results of this work can be provided as reusable IPs in a form of hard or firm IPs for designing single chip 13.56MHz RFID interrogators.

We propose an ASK modulator and Antenna driver for multi-standard 13.56MHz RFID readers and NFC devices. The proposed transmitters of RFID readers and NFC devices consist of ASK modulator, inverting output driving buffer and off-chip antenna with a matching circuit. The ASK modulation depth can easily be controlled by adjusting duty ratio by the delay line circuit. The test chip was fabricated by using a 0.35μm double poly CMOS process. The measured results demonstrated that the proposed circuit has met the standard specifications.

We have proposed a UHF/HF multi-band RFID reader, and we have implemented it into SiP with Package-on-Package technology. The proposed SiP RFID reader has been designed to support both for EPCgloabal Class1 Generation 2 protocol of UHF band, and 13.56 MHz RFID protocols of ISO14443 A/B type, and ISO15693 standards. The operating mode is controlled by embedded 32-bit RISC core, and the mode can be selected by users. The area of implemented SiP is 40 mm × 40 mm with 4 substrate layers. The implemented reader SiP operates at single supply voltage of 3.3V. The maximum current consumption is 210 mA. The measured operating distances are about 5cm for 13.56 MHz modes, and about 20 cm for UHF mode.
